A motorbike rider was airlifted to hospital after colliding with a car yesterday.
The 67-year-old was riding between Escrick and Wheldrake, on Wheldrake Lane near York, when the collision happened.
He suffered life-changing injuries to his legs and was taken to hospital by air ambulance, police said.
The driver of the Vauxhall Astra, a 77-year-old man from Escrick, was unhurt.
Police are appealing for witnesses.
A former North Yorkshire Police constable has denied seeking payments from two hotels for services provided as a firearms enforcement officer.
Paul Duffield, 55, from Easingwold, denies two counts of misconduct which relate to alleged payments from the hotels in Helmsley.
He appeared at Teeside Crown Court (pictured) where he also pleaded not guilty to six misconduct counts related to "facilitating the release" of firearms into the public domain.
Mr Duffield pleaded guilty to three offences of possessing ammunition without authority.
Judge Simon Bourne-Arton granted him bail ahead of a trial which is expected to begin in February next year.
North Yorkshire Police say Mr Duffield resigned in January.
MPs will debate safe standing at Premier League and Championship football grounds today.
The government's current position is that all-seater grounds are safest, but say the time is right to take a look at the issue.
The law was changed following the Hillsborough disaster in Sheffield.
Supporter groups are pressing for what's called "safe standing" to be introduced in rail seats which can be locked in an upright position, with more than 112,000 people signing a petition in support of the idea.
Four men have pleaded guilty to violent disorder in relation to a disturbance at a nightclub in Sheffield in which five people were injured.
Four men were stabbed and a fifth was seriously injured during the incident outside Niche, in Walker Street, on 23 December.
Roemol Taylor, 20, Negus Nelson, 29, Leyton Orr, 26, and Junior Nieta, 34, all from Sheffield, admitted the offence at Sheffield Crown Court.
A fifth man, Torrington Smith, 29, pleaded guilty to the same charge in April.
All five are due to be sentenced on 20 August.
Niche was closed by police following the incident and only reopened in February after the club was ordered to improve security measures.

Bradford-based supermarket chain Morrisons has announced a series of measures to cut down on plastic pollution, including the re-introduction of the brown paper bag from today.
Shoppers will also be encouraged to use their own packaging for a variety of fish and meats.
The initiative will see the company committing to all of its own plastic packaging being reusable, recyclable and compostable by 2025.
Morrisons chief executive David Potts said: "Reducing the damage caused by plastic is one of the most challenging issues society can address.
"Because we make most of the fresh food we sell, we're in an important position to make changes to our packaging."

Leeds United fans will get a first look at the club's new manager later as Marcelo Bielsa's introductory media conference takes place at Elland Road.
Bielsa's never worked in England before, but he's coached the national sides of both his native Argentina and Chile, as well as spells with Athletic Bilbao and Marseille.
He’s revered by both Man City boss Pep Guardiola and Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino, with the latter calling him his "footballing father".

The mother of a teenager who was found in an emaciated state and later died, made a doctor's appointment for herself, but didn't mention her son's worsening health to the GP, Leeds Crown Court has heard.
Dawn Cranston said it was likely she'd seen a GP in January 2016 over anxiety but didn't talk about 18-year-old Jordan Burling because "he didn't want anything to do with doctors".
The court also heard Jordan's estranged father sent texts urging Ms Cranston to take him to the doctors in November 2015.
Ms Cranston argued his health didn't start to deteriorate until March or April 2016, three months before he died at their home in Farnley.
Ms Cranston, 45, denies manslaughter along with Jordan’s grandmother Denise Cranston, 70, and sister Abigail Burling, 25.
All three also deny an alternative count of causing or allowing the death of a vulnerable person.
A mountain biker, who fractured his leg after crashing his bike, had to be carried out of a Sheffield wood by the mountain rescue team.
Woodhead Mountain Rescue Team, external were called out to help Yorkshire Ambulance Service on Saturday afternoon in Grenoside Woods.
The biker was given pain relief and then carried to a waiting ambulance.
He's recovering in hospital.
A motorcyclist has been killed after colliding with a cyclist near Settle, North Yorkshire, yesterday.
The motorcyclist was riding on the road between Wigglesworth and Rathmell when he hit the pedal bike.
The men were airlifted from the scene following the crash on Sunday morning.
