    The RAC says today's evening rush hour is expected to hit earlier than usual with roads being busier than normal by 17:00

    The AA predicts that millions of people will be going home early this evening but the time the match kicks off at 19:00 roads will be "quieter than on Christmas Day".

    Meanwhile, train firm Great Northern expect afternoon services to be extremely busy.

    A new £6m project to help hundreds of drink and drug addicts in Sheffield has been launched.

    Sheffield City Council wants to work with up to 200 people to reduce their impact on services in the city, according to the Local Democracy Reporting Service.

    Officers say they "move chaotically" between a number of services and often turn up at places like A&E, which are costly to the taxpayer.

    A council report claims the project could help save more than £3m.

  4. Fundraisers celebrate charity walk anniversary and England World Cup Quarter Final winpublished at 15:49 British Summer Time 11 July 2018

    Fundraisers in Ovington celebrated the 10th anniversary of their annual charity walk in glorious sunshine on Saturday.

    The event raised money for the Sir Bobby Robson Foundation. Sir Bobby’s widow, Lady Elsie, started the 16-mile walk from Ovington to Newburn and back.

    Forty walkers took part in the challenge, which finished with a celebration at Ovington Club. The celebration was made even sweeter thanks to England’s win in the World Cup Quarter Finals against Sweden.

    Reflecting on England reaching their first semi-final in the World Cup since her husband was at the helm in 1990, Lady Elsie said: “Bob would be thrilled by the progress of this talented England team.“Representing his country as a player and a manager meant the world to him and I know he’d be enjoying every minute of this World Cup.“Bob was immensely proud to reach the semi-finals at Italia 90 and bitterly disappointed not to go further. He’d be willing Gareth Southgate and the England team to go all the way in Russia with every fibre of his being.”

    Police have cordoned off an area around a tower block in Doncaster after the body of a woman was found.

    Police were called to Firbeck House, in St James Street, after the the body, believed to be that of a woman in her 30s, was discovered at about 12:30.

    South Yorkshire Police said the A630 Cleveland Street is closed in both directions between Trafford Way and Balby Road while investigations are ongoing.

    Fire crews had to extinguish a fire on a plane when it landed at Leeds Bradford Airport earlier, after its brakes overheated as it touched down.

    An airport spokesperson said all passengers and staff were safely taken off the Jet2 Boeing 757 after the fire was extinguished.

    The incident happened at about 12:50 as the flight arrived back in West Yorkshire from Malaga.

    A man from Bradford who abused three young girls over a period of almost 50 years has been jailed.

    Michael Cannon, 76, of Boltby Lane, Bradford, was jailed for 22 years after being convicted of 18 charges including indecent assault, sexual assault, rape and attempted rape.

    Bradford Crown Court heard he attacked three girls, one who was just six-years-old when the abuse started, between 1969 and 2016.

    A woman is in a critical condition in hospital after suffering serious injuries in a crash involving three vehicles.

    The 31-year-old was a passenger in a car which collided with a lorry and a van on the southbound carriageway of the A19 at Trenholme Bar at about 12.05 on Tuesday.

    North Yorkshire Police said the driver of the car, a 54-year-old woman, also suffered serious injuries but was in a stable condition.

    The force has appealed for witnesses or any one who may have any dashcam footage of the crash to come forward.

    Police are hunting a gunman after shots were fired at a house in Doncaster in what officers believe was a "targeted attack".

    CCTV footage released by South Yorkshire Police shows a man walking into a garden in Acacia Road, Cantley, before firing two shots at the property and damaging a downstairs window.

    The force has appealed for witnesses to the incident which occurred at about 03:05 on 1 July.

    Sheffield City Council have outlined new plans that will change the way residents recycle, according to the Local Democracy Reporting Service.

    Black bin collections will remain fortnightly, but the new system will see the introduction of a new brown bin, to replace the existing blue box, to be used for glass, cans and plastic bottles.

    The current blue bin will now be used to recycle paper and card, with the blue and brown bin collections taking place once a month.

    Police have released CCTV footage of a man they wish to speak to after a man was attacked with a hammer during a burglary in Sheffield:

    The attack happened in the Crookes area of Sheffield, when a man broke into a house and hit the occupant with the claw hammer.

    Police say it happened at about 05:50 on Friday 6 April, with the 23-year-old victim suffering minor injuries.

    About 40 tree campaigners have gathered outside Sheffield Crown Court today, opposing Sheffield City Council's plans to extend an injunction.

    The council wants to extend an injunction which prevents protestors entering safety zones around the trees.

    More than a dozen campaigners have been written to by the council asking them to sign the injunction or face being taken to court for costs.

    Thousands of trees have been felled in Sheffield as part of the council's 25-year £2bn Streets Ahead project.

    The council says only trees that are diseased, damaging or dangerous are being removed and they are then replaced with saplings.

    But campaigners say many are felled because their roots are in the way of resurfacing methods.

    We told you yesterday the Coastliner bus service from Leeds to Bridlington could be reduced from three services a day to one.

    The company is now warning it could be axed completely during the winter months because so few people use it.

    Tourism chiefs in Bridlington said yesterday they were "very concerned" about the impact of any reduction in the service.
