  9. 'Unhelpful' to call incapacitated drug users 'zombies'published at 08:35 British Summer Time 2 October 2018

Health workers in Sheffield say labelling users of the drug Spice "zombies" is not helping them get the help they need.

    Spice user

The synthetic version of cannabis, which almost totally incapacitates users, was previously known as one of the so-called "legal highs", before being banned in May 2016.

Now, those behind a new council-run clinic in Sheffield say calling users "zombies" doesn't help.

It follows a recent call from Sheffield Council for people to show more compassion towards those addicted to the drug.

In August, South Yorkshire Police and councils started discussions with the Crown Prosecution Service over whether Spice users were causing a "public nuisance".

At the time, Deputy Chief Constable Mark Roberts said: "We are often pseudo-medics, trying to work out what we do with zombified people."
