    Kirklees Council is launching the investigation as four more members of a grooming gang which operated in the town start jail sentences totalling 36 years.

    The judge at Leeds Crown Court said the crimes "defied understanding".

    Trams will not be running on parts of the blue and purple Supertram route, as essential engineering work is carried out.

    Independent shops in a North Yorkshire village have banned the sale of energy drinks to children.

    It has claimed the drinks, which are high in caffeine and sugar, have led to a rise in anti-social behaviour in Colburn, Richmondshire.

    The government is consulting on making it illegal for anyone below the age of 18 to buy the drinks, with some supermarkets already banning the sale.

    A Sheffield restaurant has apologised after selling a burger named after Harvey Weinstein.

    The Hollywood producer faces charges involving alleged sex assaults on two women. Mr Weinstein denies the charges.

    Other items on the Randy's Hardcore Hamburgers menu are named after a Mexican drug lord and pornography videos.

    In a statement, the joint said they "genuinely apologise", adding the "insensitive" naming didn't "look to glamourise or promote sexual assault".

    Reacting on Twitter, some people have said it's not just the Weinstein burger naming that they should be apologising for.

    Highways England said the crash scene was "very complex" and thanked West Yorkshire Police staff and officers for their help.

    The force said some staff had been working almost 12 hour shifts to help get stranded motorists moving again.

    The Royal Society for Public Health ranked High Streets with more payday lenders, bookmakers, tanning salons and fast food outlets the worst.

    There was a clear link between deprived areas and unhealthy High Streets, and early deaths.

    Grimsby led the unhealthy High Street list ahead of Walsall and Blackpool, while Edinburgh, Canterbury and Taunton had the healthiest outlets.

    Huddersfield and Bradford also made the ninth and tenth unhealthiest High Streets respectively.

    Barnsley's new market hall is open for business today after a major transformation to its building.

    A total of £180m has been invested by the council as part of The Glass Works regeneration project.

    Traders previously have been housed in a temporary market hall in the town.

    More than 80 stalls will be occupied, with additional traders moving in over the next few weeks.

    Hull is the third most improved city in the UK as a place to live and work, according to a new report.

    The Good Growth for Cities Index 2018, external, compiled by PwC and Demos, ranks 42 cities based on economic performance and quality of life.

    The report looks at things like employment, health and skills, as well as things like the cost of houses and commuting times.

    Hull was ranked as the third most improved city compared to the 2017 list, behind Preston, Middlesbrough and Stockton.

    A cat's been found dead in a snare in Rotherham, prompting the RSPCA to try and find its owner.

    The cat was found by a member of the public last Saturday on a footpath by some wasteland off Flatts Lane in Trenton.

    The homemade trap - which tightens as the animal tries to get free - was still around the cat's neck when it was found.

    While the cause of death isn't certain, the RSPCA says it seems "likely" the snare was to blame.

    RSPCA inspector Ben Cottle-Shaw said: "He isn't microchipped and wasn't wearing a collar with any identification details.

    "So we don’t know whether there is an owner out there missing him or whether he was a stray."

    A homeowner chased off three armed burglars in Sheffield after they shot out the glass of a door to get into a property.

    The suspects went to the house on Westfield Crescent in Mosborough at 19:00 on Wednesday and fired a gun at the glass porch door.

    The homeowner confronted them as they entered the house.

    The three then fled in a blue Alfa Romeo Mito, which was later found abandoned.

    Leeds-based airline Jet2 says it supports government plans to reduce drunk and disruptive behaviour at airports and on flights.

    The Home Office says it could bring high street licensing laws into the departure lounge, which could limit the hours that passengers can drink alcohol at airports,

    Under current rules, sales of alcohol beyond the security gates at international airports in England and Wales are not regulated by these laws.

    The airline, based at Leeds Bradford Airport, said: "Jet2.com welcomes today’s announcement. We look forward to working with government to ensure our crew and customers can fly in a safe, trouble-free environment."

    Hull City Council took "no further action" when a paedophile ice skater persuaded a girl to share indecent images with him, a review has found.

    Hull Children's Social Care (CSC) found out about the photos in May 2013 but Jamie Whiteman was not barred from the city's Ice Arena until October.

    The authority said recommendations from a Hull Safeguarding Children Board review, external had been put in place.

    Whiteman, 22, was sentenced in 2015 after admitting abusing five girls.

    The University of Huddersfield has backed its Chancellor, Prince Andrew, who has been urged to resign by some students over his "blase attitude" towards the murder of journalist Jamal Khashoggi, according to the Local Democracy Reporting Service.

    The Duke of York has been criticised by Huddersfield Labour Students for visiting Saudi Arabia last week but failing to raise Mr Khashoggi's death, instead speaking of forging further links with the kingdom by promoting entrepreneurship.

    In response, a university spokesman said the Duke, appointed in 2015, was an "excellent" Chancellor who received "a warm welcome" from staff and students on his visits.

    Professor Bob Cryan, Vice-Chancellor of the university, said the Duke was "tremendously supportive of the university and we look forward to his continued involvement."

    Two backpackers, one of whom was from Halifax, who were on a "dream" tour of India died when they got off their motorbike and were hit by an oncoming lorry, an inquest has heard.

    The inquest in Stockport was told Hannah Whitley, 23, from Bramhall, and Daniel Bulgacs, 39, from Halifax, died in the state of Goa on 22 December.

    Manchester South Coroner Chris Morris found the pair died as a result of a road traffic collision.

    The hearing was told an Indian criminal investigation could take four years.

    A World War One fort in the Humber estuary, which has lain empty since the 1950s, has gone under the hammer for £117,000.

    Haile Sand Fort, described by auctioneers as "utilitarian in design", was built between 1915 and 1918 to protect the estuary.

    The building, off Grimsby, had a guide price of £90,000 for the auction.

    The identity of the new buyers is not yet known.

    A missing 12-year-old girl from Bradford has no money and no mobile phone, according to West Yorkshire Police.

    Selina Hanif has now been missing for more than 24 hours after being reported missing from her school in Bingley just before 15:00 on Wednesday.

    She was still wearing her school uniform - a grey blazer, a green and black tie, black trousers and she was carrying a rucksack.

    She may have travelled to the Allerton area, police say.
