  1. Leeds Fest headliners named - but no women among top actspublished at 11:41 Greenwich Mean Time 21 November 2018

    The Foo Fighters (pictured) and The 1975 have been announced as the main acts for next year's Leeds Festival.

    Post Malone and Twenty One Pilots are also among those headlining the festival at Bramham Park, which is also simultaneously held at Reading over the August Bank Holiday.

    Pale Waves, Blossoms and Bastille are among the other names on the line-up.

    However, there are no female headliners playing the bill despite the festival receiving criticism over the past couple of years.

    Earlier this year, boss Melvin Benn told the BBC he aimed to "create a bigger pool of female acts" to choose from by providing 36 female artists with one week's studio recording time over the next three years.

    This week, campaigners who want to persuade festival organisers to have equal numbers of male and female performers by 2022 are meeting with officials at the European Parliament to put forward their concerns and ideas.

    Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn has offered his support following the news that 95-year-old veteran and political activist Harry Leslie Smith, from Barnsley, is seriously ill in hospital.

    Mr Smith, who served with the RAF in World War Two and who more recently has campaigned on behalf of the NHS, is "not in a good way" and has been taken into A&E, his son John says.

    The Daily Mirror, external said Mr Smith was understood to have fallen ill in Canada, where he was visiting his son.

    This morning, #IStandWithHarry was trending on Twitter as messages of support flooded in.

    Mr Corbyn said: "Very sorry to hear this. Please pass on my best to Harry. We need him to get well soon."

    There's a warning the public will be put at "significant risk" if there are more cuts to the fire service in North Yorkshire.

    It's after an independent report, published yesterday by Police, Fire and Crime Commissioner Julia Mulligan, warned the service has been using reserves to plug a shortfall of millions of pounds.

    A missing 13-year-old girl, who failed to return home from school in Hull yesterday, has been found following a public appeal.

    Humberside Police said Alisha Anderson was safe and well.

    The force thanked everyone who shared the appeal.

    Donations to a bus used to teach hip-hop skills to children in schools and estates in Hull have been flooding in after it featured in a documentary shown on the BBC.

    Steve Arnott's Beats Bus has surpassed its £20,000 crowdfunding target.

    The total almost doubled in the 24 hours after Sean McAllister's acclaimed documentary A Northern Soul was aired on BBC 2.

    The film showed Steve juggle warehouse work with pursuing his dream of working with children in the converted bus.

    He has thanked donors and said the funding, which now stands at more than £21,000, would pay for tutors to help teach writing, performing and recording skills.

    Council tax payers in North Yorkshire may see their bills increase to help tackle the financial problems facing the county's fire service.

    An independent report says the service has been using reserves to plug a shortfall of millions of pounds, which it concludes is not sustainable.

    The review said that if nothing altered before the 2022/23 financial year, the service will overspend by at least £3.5m.

    Julia Mulligan, the police and crime commissioner for North Yorkshire (pictured), who is now responsible for the fire service, says she's asked the government if council tax can be increased.

    Meanwhile, the takeover of North Yorkshire's fire service by the Police and Crime Commissioner is due to be called into question in Parliament today.

    Critics say the move could severely impact the fire service's ability to serve residents. The House of Lords will debate the decision later.

    A Rotherham teenager has become a powerlifting champion, breaking world records in the process.

    Keenan Freer says he had a difficult childhood, but was saved by the gym.

    It had turned his life around, he said.

    "Powerlifting has helped me as a person", he said.

    "It's helped me grow up and taught me a lot of life lessons.

    "No matter what, believe in yourself, work hard and it will pay off."

    The next steps in Channel 4's move to Leeds will be discussed by council bosses today.

    Leeds City Council predicts the move will create more than 1,200 jobs over the next 10 years.

    Councillors will look at the wider benefits to the city's creative industries.

    The broadcaster will keep another headquarters in the capital, but will move roughly 200 of its 800 staff to the West Yorkshire city.

    Leeds was chosen above Birmingham and Greater Manchester, which were also on the shortlist.

    The new national headquarters will be a base for people who "live and work" in Leeds, its chief executive said.

    He's suffering from what his son John believes is pneumonia.

    Writing on Harry's Twitter account, John says he's pleased Harry was loved, as his greatest fear was "that he'd be forgotten and think his life had been worthless".

    The first Briton in space will be awarded an honorary degree in York today.

    Sheffield's Dr Helen Sharman was a member of the expedition to Soviet Mir Space Station in 1991 and is one of the inspiring women being celebrated by York St John's University.

    Dr Sharman will be awarded the degree at York Minster, alongside hundreds of other students who are graduating.

    Developers are hoping to build a hotel and cafe on Huddersfield's landmark Castle Hill.

    The model pictured above was shown to Kirklees councillors and planners by an architect on behalf of Mick and Barry Thandi.

    This is the third time the brothers have applied to build on the site.

    The site is a scheduled ancient monument dating back 4,000 years.
