    Drink drivers will be "named and shamed" by North Yorkshire Police during the Christmas period.

    The force have promised to publish the names and photos of people convicted of driving under the influence of drink and drugs.

    It says these details and images can be released without any permission because it is in "the public interest".

    Sergeant Andy Morton said: "“People’s friends, family and employers will see these details in the news and on Facebook - and people really dislike drink and drug drivers."

    He said the embarrassment offenders feel is nothing compared to the "utter devastation" driving under the influence can cause "to the lives of innocent people".

    Diana Terris joined Barnsley Council in 2012 after six years as the Chief Executive at Warrington Borough Council.

    The leader of the council Sir Steve Houghton paid tribute saying the organisation's been radically transformed and improved under her leadership.

    A Shipley man must repay more than £3.5m within three months or face jail, after committing money laundering offences with his wife.

    Zakir Ahmed, 51, and his wife Majula Salian, 53, laundered over £3.5m through different international bank accounts.

    They both were found guilty for converting criminal property in 2014, Bradford Crown Court heard.

    Salian was deported to India after serving three years.

    Ahmed has been given three months to pay back the sum of £3,545,921 or face 10 years in jail.

    There's been an evacuation in a North Yorkshire town following a chemical spill at a luxury hotel and spa.

    A gas has been released following the accidental spill in Helmsley, with emergency services called to the scene.

    The Feversham Arms was cordoned off with the hotel and neighbouring properties evacuated this afternoon.

    Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus are currently investigating the spill and ventilating the building, which has an outdoor, heated pool.

    North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service says the spillage is contained and there is no wider risk to the public, although crews are likely to remain at the scene for some time.

    Sculptures of lions could soon be a 'mane' feature on the streets of York.

    The pride is expected to be installed throughout the city of York as part of a temporary art trail.

    The City of York Council hope the sculpture route through the city will be ready for the spring of 2020.

    The managing director of the Make It York tourism organisation, Steve Brown, said: "Lions could be chosen as the basis of the project because there are five lions on the York coat of arms.

    "We're looking at maybe working with York BID and St Leonard's Hospice, putting on a really powerful trail that gets lots of people here and then at the end of it raising lots of money for the hospice."

    A report says the route would be modelled on the Manchester bee trail, which saw more than 100 individually designed giant bees positioned across the city.

    Do you recognise the man in this e-fit? Police are trying to identify him after a woman was sexually assaulted in Sheffield.

    The woman, 28, was walking down Furnival Street when a man walking in the opposite direction grabbed and sexually assaulted her at about 15:30 on 25 September.

    The man was wearing a green scarf.

    Police would like anyone who recognises the man to get in touch.

  11. Third man detained over CCTV of Hull homeless tent attackpublished at 14:32 Greenwich Mean Time 12 December 2018

    A third man is in custody today after handing himself in to police following the release of CCTV showing a man jumping feet-first onto a tent which had two homeless men inside.

    The 27-year-old man, from the Lincoln area, gave himself up to officers this afternoon after publication of a video, which showed a man launching himself on top of the tent while another filmed it and laughed.

    He is currently being detained, along with another two men, aged 26 and 29, who are also from the Lincoln area and were arrested on suspicion of assault yesterday.

    Police say they have now identified all three suspects shown in the CCTV footage, taken on Whitefriargate, in Hull, in the early hours of 30 November.

    In a statement, Humberside Police thanked all the people who had shared their appeal since Monday.

    Heroin and crack cocaine with a street value of £3,000 and stolen property have been seized by police in Rotherham.

    Officers say they stopped a suspect vehicle travelling into the Rotherham area from Sheffield, which led to the arrests of four men from the Sheffield area, aged 20, 23, 29 and 56, for possession with intent to supply Class A drugs.

    Five search warrants were also executed at properties across Sheffield and Rotherham, which led to the recovery of further Class A drugs, police say.

    Yorkshire's Conservative MPs will be among those taking part in a vote of confidence in Theresa May's leadership later.

    They'll vote from 18:00 to 20:00, with a result expected an hour or so later.

    The challenge to Mrs May's position comes after the required 48 letters calling for a contest were delivered, according to the 1922 Committee.

    But a defiant Mrs May warned a new Prime Minister would be faced with the choice of "delaying or even stopping Brexit".

    So, which of our Conservative MPs will be supporting the Prime Minister and which will be calling for the PM to quit?

    As of 13:50 this afternoon, these are the Yorkshire Conservative MPs likely to SUPPORT Theresa May's leadership in tonight's ballot:

    Police officers in Doncaster say the're "particularly concerned" after a woman went missing from hospital.

    Joanne Thompson, 39, was last seen leaving Doncaster Royal Infirmary at about 21:45 last night.

    She has been receiving long-term care there, according to South Yorkshire Police.

    She is described as being of a slight build, with brown hair and is thought to be wearing a grey top and a purple knitted hat.

    Anybody who sees her, or who knows where she is, is being urged to call police on 101.

    Four friends from North Yorkshire begin the challenge of rowing the atlantic ocean later today.

    Fraser, Will, Glyn and Duncan, a Royal Engineer, an ex-Royal Marine, a civilian and an RAF Chief Technician, are known as Team Row4Victory.

    They intend to row around the clock from the Canary Islands to Antigua, in the West Indies in the Talisker Whisky Atlantic Challenge.

    They're attempting the 3,000-mile journey to raise money for the Royal British Legion.

    The journey, known as the world’s toughest endurance race, could take between 35 and 70 days, with the team rowing two-hour shifts in pairs around the clock.

    Just to add a little perspective, more people climb Mount Everest every year than have ever rowed across an ocean.

    A 16-year-old boy has been arrested after a 17-year-old girl suffered a serious sexual assault in Leeds.

    The attack happened on Fairfax Road, Beeston, at about 16:15 on Tuesday.

    A cordon in the area remains in place today.

    Anyone with information about the attack is being urged to contact police.

    This video shows just how quickly a fire can turn into an explosion, with a huge fireball erupting during a training exercise in Maltby.

    South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Tweeted the video of a firefighter near the blaze as the area turns orange with flames.

    It's thought the fireball was the result of what's known as a backdraught:
