Increase in working families using York foodbankpublished at 10:47 Greenwich Mean Time 17 December 2018
York's high rents and zero-hours contracts are being blamed for more of the city's families having to turn to foodbanks this Christmas.
The warning's come from the Chill in the Community cafe in the city's Acomb area.
The cafe works with York foodbank to hand out emergency parcels to people who can't afford to put food on the table.
Organiser Mary Passeri says: "Extra demand this Christmas has come from people in work, rather than those on benefits."
It's an example of York's "invisible poverty", she adds.
