A police dog who retired after having a leg amputated is "adapting really well" to life outside the force - enjoying a Boxing Day trip to the pub.

Old Christmas trees could be used to make sugar and even paint, researchers in Sheffield have claimed.

A team at the University of Sheffield are working on environmentally-friendly ways to reuse pine needles.

PhD student Cynthia Kartey said: "If we could convert these used Christmas trees to sugars it would be a great way of saving space in landfills."

An arrest warrant for Sheffield Wednesday striker Fernando Forestieri has been issued after he missed a court appearance earlier today.

He was due to appear in front of magistrates in Mansfield accused of using threatening and abusive words or behaviour and racially aggravated harassment.

The court confirmed the 28-year-old, of Chambers Grove, Sheffield, failed to attend and a warrant without bail has now been issued.

A previously free park and ride scheme in Doncaster is to start charging some users.

From 1 January users will have to pay 50p each way to use the service between Doncaster Racecourse and Doncaster Royal Infirmary.

The service is provided at a "substantial cost," according to the Doncaster and Bassetlaw Teaching Hospitals Trust.

Parking will remain free but costs will cover bus and car park upgrades.

Staff with an NHS ID badge will travel for free, along with those with a local authority bus pass and patients and visitors connected with certain critical and cancer-related treatment, the trust said.

Under the plans branches including those in Beverley, Harrogate, Northallerton, Pontefract, Scarborough, Selby and York, will move into the high street retailer.

The Post Office plans to move up to 61 more branches into WH Smith stores over the next year.

House prices in Driffield have gone up by nearly 7% over the last year - the eighth biggest increase in England.

The East Yorkshire town made it into the top 10 places with the biggest growth in house prices, according to property website Zoopla.

It looked at house prices over the past year and found the average value of a property in Driffield was £209,406 which was an increase of 6.93%

According to the analysis, Ryde on the Isle Of Wight has seen the biggest house price increase over the past year.

Across Britain's nations and regions, prices in Scotland have seen the biggest percentage growth while property values in London have experienced a slight dip.

Richard Donnell, insight director at Zoopla said: "Affordability levels remain attractive in many areas outside of southern England, a trend we expect to continue into 2019."

Three Yorkshire MPs have been included in an exhibition of female politicians captured by female photographers.

The exhibition 209 Women is on show at Portcullis House at the Houses of Parliament.

"I wanted to give the photographers the total freedom of expression," says Hilary Wood, founder of 209 Women and one of the curators of the show.

Hannah Starkey photographed Yvette Cooper, Labour MP for Normanton, Pontefract and Castleford, at a restaurant not far from where she lives.

Before the shoot, she wanted to get to know Cooper and shadowed her at work in her constituency for a day.

"It really opened my eyes to what MPs have to do, from the very small grass roots to the big issues," she says.

Two other Yorkshire MPs, Sarah Champion Labour MP for Rotherham and Tracy Brabin, Labour MP for Batley and Spen, are also featured in the exhibition.

A North Yorkshire police officer is to keep on running and running to raise £500,000 for charity by completing 120 marathons in 120 days.

Graham Wilson will take on the challenge from next March, with his first marathon taking place in Harrogate.

He's due to hang up his badge after almost three decades with North Yorkshire Police and describes the challenge as his "retirement plan."

Three people remain in custody over the murder of a man in Leeds on Boxing Day.

Of the seven people arrested on suspicion of the murder of a 30-year-old man who died after being seriously injured in a disturbance in Robb Street, Beeston, a 29-year-old man and a 26-year-old woman remain in custody.

Three other men and two women have been released without charge.

A 35-year-old man is also now in custody on suspicion of murder after being arrested yesterday.

Police have not yet released the identity of the dead man.

More women than ever are getting into farming, according to an agricultural college in Yorkshire.

Askham Bryan College, near York, says a third of its students are now women.

The college also said it was seeing more students coming from non-farming backgrounds.

A council in South Yorkshire says it's spending £12m a year more on its children's services than it was three years ago.

Rotherham Council say the extra cash is due to an increase in demand, which it says has risen by more than 50% over that time, from 400 children in care, to almost 650.

Will, Duncan, Fraser and Glyn, a Royal Engineer, an ex-Royal Marine, a civilian and an RAF Chief Technician, are known as Team Row4Victory.

They left from the Canary Islands just under two weeks ago.

They're rowing around the clock to Antigua, in the West Indies, in the Talisker Whisky Atlantic Challenge, to raise money for the Royal British Legion.

However, Fraser's developed a problem with a muscle from his shin into the top of his right ankle and can't row.

Fraser says: "Emotionally I find myself in a dark place, the lads are having to pick up the slack and boat speed is down.

"I'm feeling like little more than self loading ballast, but the lads have rallied round to make me still feel part of the team.

"I’m doing what I can by making sure there's always food waiting for them and their water bottles are filled, cleaning the boat and washing kit to make sure no one else goes down with an illness."

Fraser's confident he'll be back on the oars as soon as possible to help the team complete their challenge.

A search is on to reunite the women who worked in a secret underground bunker near Withernsea during the Cold War years.

A reunion is being organised to bring together hundreds of women who served years underground at RAF Holmpton, monitoring the skies above the east coast for enemy aircraft.

Janet Levesley, a veteran of the bunker, said: "It would just be so nice to meet up and catch up and I think there will be a lot of fond memories."

The man then became physically aggressive with the two victims before punching both of them, leaving them with facial injuries.
