A former farmer says he's hoping to re-introduce the red squirrel to East Yorkshire.

Shaun Marrs says the smaller red has been driven out by the bigger American grey squirrel and there are now none left in the area.

There are an estimated 140,000 red squirrels in the UK, compared with more than two million greys.

Mr Marrs says he's planning to breed red squirrels in Holderness and release them into woodland he owns.

He says the project may take some time, as baby red squirrels stay with their mum for a year and then they need to be held in a 12ft holding cage for another year before being released.
