    Hundreds of Arriva bus drivers have called off 10 days of strike action after settling a pay dispute.

    About 650 workers in parts of North Yorkshire as well as Teesside and County Durham were due to walk out from 27 January to 5 February in a bid to get a rise of £1 an hour.

    A spokesman for the Unite Union said its members had voted late on Thursday to accept a revised pay offer.

    Arriva said a new deal had been "hammered out" and it was "pleased".

    Drivers who have halted the action were based at Whitby, Darlington, Durham, Redcar and Stockton.

    Arriva said the drivers had accepted a "top rate" pay deal of £10.60 an hour.

    Traffic is easing on the A64 at Tadcaster, following a full road closure westbound to the A1(M) overnight.

    Delays of about 20 minutes are currently being faced by drivers using the road as traffic slowly begins to return to normal.

    The delays followed a serious collision overnight which closed the road between Tadcaster and Bramham.

    A Thai family believe a woman who is thought to have been murdered and then dumped in a mountain stream in North Yorkshire is their missing relative.

    The body was found by walkers wrapped around rocks near Pen-y-ghent in the Yorkshire Dales in 2004.

    Her identity has never been established by North Yorkshire Police, but officers think she was a murdered "Thai bride".

    A press conference in north east Thailand heard a family had come forward about a missing relative.

    The Udon Thani Provincial Justice Office was told the woman, who the BBC is not naming for legal reasons, married a British man in 1991 and moved to the north west of England four years later.

    A North Yorkshire Police spokesman confirmed the force's Cold Case Review Unit had received a possible name for the unknown woman.

    Inquiries were ongoing to establish her identity, he added.

    The funeral of a six-year-old Leeds United fan is due to take place later today.

    Toby Nye, pictured above with Leeds captain Liam Cooper, had been suffering from high-risk neuroblastoma, a rare form of cancer which spreads rapidly across the body.

    He developed a special relationship with the football club and died just days after his birthday.

    Last year, £200,000 was raised for his treatment and at one stage last summer he was declared cancer-free.

    Hundreds of people are expected to line the streets later to pay tribute.

    His funeral's due to take place this afternoon.

    Thirty-minute delays and seven miles of queues are currently being faced by drivers using the A64 westbound in North Yorkshire.

    It follows a serious collision overnight which closed the road between Tadcaster and Bramham.

    One lane has since reopened, but the road remains partially blocked, with tailbacks stretching seven miles from Tadcaster to York's Outer Ring Road.

    The road's been closed since about 01:00 following the crash between the A659 to A1(M) Aberford Bypass and J44 York/Tadcaster.

    Congestion's currently as far back as Copmanthorpe and drivers are being warned to expect delays and avoid the area if they can.

    A man from West Yorkshire who systematically raped his teenage daughter at least three times a week is due to be sentenced today.

    Elliott Appleyard raped Carol Higgins "three or four times a week" at their West Yorkshire home when she was aged between 13 and 15, a court heard.

    Miss Higgins, who waived her right to anonymity, first reported it to police in 1985, but was told it would "blacken her name" if she pursued it.

    Appleyard, 71, of Gilthwaites Crescent, Denby Dale, was convicted yesterday of 15 charges including rape and indecent assault.

    The jury took less than two hours to reach their unanimous verdicts, with a tearful Miss Higgins hugging her family as she left the courtroom.

    Appleyard was remanded in custody and is due to be sentenced later today.

  11. A64 Tadcaster-Boston Spa closed after 'serious collision'published at 07:28 Greenwich Mean Time 25 January 2019

    Drivers on the A64 near Boston Spa are being warned that the road remains closed westbound after a "serious collision" in the early hours.

    The road's been shut since about 01:00 following the incident and a diversion's in place.

    Motorists are being advised by Highways England to leave the A64 at Islington onto the A659, following this through Tadcaster and Boston Spa to join the A1(M) at junction J45.

    Drivers on the other carriageway are being urged by police to not slow down to see what's going on.

    Two men are expected to appear at Sheffield Crown Court today, charged with the murder of a boxer at a pub in Doncaster.

    Officers say they require daylight for investigations and the road is" highly likely" to be closed through the rush hour.

    Traffic police say: "If you are passing on the other carriageway, please do not slow down to see what is going on."

    A young figure skater from Sheffield has spoken of her aspirations after becoming British champion.

    Olivia Jenkinson, 13, from Sheffield and Stanley Evans, 15, have been performing as a pair together for less than a year, but have already made their mark and have their sights set on bigger things.

    Their dedication is already second-to-none, with Olivia, from South Yorkshire, and Stanley, from Oundle, Northamptonshire, regularly travelling 100 miles across the country to train together.

    A man who bit his victim's ear off and attacked another man has been jailed for 12 years.

    Andrew Haken, 32, from Chesterfield, approached a group of 18-year-old men on Division Street in the evening of 18 June.

    Sheffield Crown Court heard how he assaulted one teenager in an "unprovoked attack".

    When the other men tried to intervene, Haken bit into one man's ear, removing a chunk.

    The victim has had to undergo extensive surgery.

    Det Con Amy Taylor said: “This group of young men were out enjoying their evening, following the England match, when it was utterly destroyed by Haken’s violent and unprovoked attack."
