    Firefighters have been tackling a major moorland fire in West Yorkshire.

    The fire, which has been burning over the weekend, has now been extinguished.

    Fire crews remained at the site overnight to prevent it reigniting.

    Pictures from the blaze show the extent of the fire on Marsden Moor, near Slaithwaite.

    A number of local roads were closed at the height of the blaze, which could be seen from miles around.

    Two men have died after the car they were travelling in hit a bus in Barnsley last night.

    A black VW Golf was travelling along Barnsley Road, towards Cudworth, when it crashed with a double decker bus at about 22:30.

    The men, aged 18 and 24, were pronounced dead at the scene.

    The bus driver suffered minor injuries.

    It is believed that two other vehicles were in the area at the time and left the scene following the crash.

    South Yorkshire Police is appealing for witnesses.

  4. Boys seen 'throwing ducklings' - but not what it seemspublished at 10:58 British Summer Time 15 April 2019

    Two boys who were seen "throwing" ducklings into a river in West Yorkshire were actually helping to rescue them, according to police.

    Officers were alerted after the boys were seen with the ducklings on the banks of the River Holme in Holmfirth.

    But when they arrived it became apparent they were helping to rescue the ducklings and reunite them with their mother after they had become trapped in a drain.

    West Yorkshire Police Wildlife Crime Officer Caroline Newsome said their act of "absolute kindness" had "made my day".

  5. Thousands take part in Sheffield half marathonpublished at 10:25 British Summer Time 15 April 2019

    About 7,000 people took to the streets of Sheffield yesterday for the city's half marathon.

    The winners were Jamie Hall, who finished in at a time of one hour and 11 minutes, and Phillipa Williams, who crossed the line after one hour 17 mins.

    Supporters packed the course to cheer on those taking part as they ran from the city centre up to The Norfolk Arms in Ringinglow then back through Bents Green and onto Ecclesall Road.

    The finish, outside Sheffield Town Hall, was also well supported, with money being raised for the Jane Tomlinson Appeal.

    Sarah Anderson, from organisers Run For All, said the runners had "done themselves proud" and the crowd was "fantastic".

    Printers based in West Yorkshire are hoping to stamp their way into the World Record books with what they believe is the largest letterpress printing machine on the planet.

    Leeds design studio Split hopes to set the record by printing a giant poster with the machine, called the People Powered Press, at Yorkshire Dance, in St Peter's Square.

    The machine, made in Batley, uses huge steel letters that have to be slotted into place on the press.

    Letterpress is the oldest form of mechanical printing.

    Barnsley manager Daniel Stendel is "OK" after suffering facial injuries in an alleged assault involving rival manager Joey Barton, the BBC has been told.

    It was reported that Mr Stendel was left with "blood pouring from his face" after the attack, which is being investigated by police

    The Fleetwood boss clashed with the Barnsley manager in the tunnel after Saturday's 4-2 League One defeat at Oakwell, according to Barnsley player Cauley Woodrow.

    He claimed on Twitter that Stendel had been "physically assaulted", before later deleting the tweet.

    On Sunday, South Yorkshire Police issued a new statement, saying: "Officers received reports of an assault at Barnsley Football Club today, Saturday, 13 April, this incident has been crimed and will be thoroughly investigated."

    Barnsley said they "could confirm there was an alleged incident" and the club was "assisting the police with its enquiries"., external

    Fleetwood said they had "been made aware of an alleged incident" and were "currently establishing the facts", but neither they nor Barton had been contacted by police.

    A bomb disposal team was called to an East Yorkshire beach on Sunday after a suspected piece of ordnance was found.

    Specially trained officers and HM Coastguard cordoned off part of Hornsea South Beach at about 15:00 after the item was discovered.

    Hornsea Coastguard said the item was removed for safe disposal.

    Today marks 30 years since the Hillsborough football disaster in which 96 Liverpool fans died.

    The tragedy happened during the 1989 FA Cup semi-final between Liverpool and Nottingham Forest, when there was a crush at the Leppings Lane end of the stadium.

    A minute's silence will be held in Liverpool at 15:06, the time the match was halted on 15 April 1989 at Sheffield Wednesday's Hillsborough ground.

    Two teenagers have been arrested after two boys were seriously injured at a Harrogate beauty spot at the weekend.

    The victims are in hospital in a stable condition after they were assaulted in the Valley Gardens at about 15:30 on Saturday.

    Two suspects from the Leeds area were arrested and extra patrols have been put on the in the area to reassure residents, police say.

    A motorcyclist has died after crashing on a stretch of the A63 which passes beneath the Humber Bridge.

    It's thought the 56-year-old lost control of his bike and crashed into the central reservation at about 20:15 on Saturday.

    Humberside Police would like to speak to anyone who was travelling on the A63 in Hull around that time.

    Volunteers are trying to restore wildlife to Bradford's waterways after fish were killed by sewage last year.

    It's hoped the work on Bradford Beck will reverse a virtual wipeout of fish last year, after huge amounts of raw sewage turned the water black.

    The projects is being spearheaded by the Friends of Bradford Beck group.

    Investigations into an alleged incident involving Fleetwood Town manager Joey Barton after the Barnsley game at Oakwell on Saturday will continue today.

    It's alleged the Fleetwood Town manager assaulted the Reds boss Daniel Stendel after the match at Oakwell.

    Police have recovered another body from the River Ouse in York.

    Divers were in the water close to the Blue Bridge area yesterday morning and located the body of a male during the afternoon.

    His family has been informed, according to police.

    It's the third time in eight days that a body's been recovered from a river in York.
