  1. Yorkshire's Tucano display team in final Scarborough visitpublished at 09:48 British Summer Time 17 April 2019

    Yorkshire's Tucano display team is expected to visit Scarborough for the final time during the town's Armed Forces Day, it's been confirmed.

    The team is based at RAF Linton on Ouse in North Yorkshire which is set to close, with the Tucano also due to be phased out of service in 2020.

    Scarborough's Armed Forces Day, which is due to be held on Saturday 29 June, will be the only public Tucano display in Yorkshire this year.

    The organisers of the event say the visit will be "a real chance for spectators to be part of the aircraft’s history".

    Other aircraft appearing will include the Eurofighter Typhoon and the RAF Battle of Britain Memorial Flight's Spitfires.

  2. Two men injured in Sheffield car crash stabbingpublished at 09:33 British Summer Time 17 April 2019

    Two people have been injured in a stabbing in Sheffield last night.

    The stabbing followed a car crash at about 19:35 between two cars, a Mazda and a VW Golf, on Burncross Road at the Lound Side roundabout in Chapeltown.

    Two men in the Golf, aged 21 and 25, are then thought to have been stabbed by occupants of the Mazda.

    They were taken to hospital where they were treated for minor stab wounds.

    No arrests have been made.

    South Yorkshire Police are appealing for information.

    Leeds United has been allocated an extra 2,000 tickets for away fans by Ipswich Town for the final game of the season at Portman Road.

    Ipswich Town says it comes after meetings between the club, police and safety advisors.

    In a statement, external, the club said it had been "inundated" with ticket requests from Leeds fans looking to attend the game.

    More details about how fans can get the extra tickets are expected to be released later.

    Protests are expected outside power generator Drax's annual general meeting in London later against the burning of materials at a North Yorkshire power station.

    Climate campaigners say continued burning of wooden pellets, known as biomass, as well as coal and gas at the site, near Selby and Goole, is harming the environment.

    A spokesperson for Drax said the company supplies millions of homes and businesses with reliable, low carbon and cost-effective power.

    The new season starts at Beverley racecourse later, with up to 4,000 spectators expected to attend.

    Marketing manager Kate McKee said there's been racing at Beverley racecourse since 1690 and it's "integral to the town".

    More than 100,000 people are set to visit the course during the 19 race days which make up the season.

    These tiny puppies have been recovered from a car in Doncaster after a motorist driving on false number plates abandoned their car after making off from police:

    The little baby chihuahuas, "one no bigger than the palm of your hand", according to officers, inside the abandoned Vauxhall Corsa in Armthorpe at about midnight.

    South Yorkshire Police say the dogs are "staying with us" while officers make inquiries about where the puppies came from and why the car had false plates.

    Anyone with information about the vehicle or the puppies is being asked to get in touch with the police.

    A 14-year-old girl from Huddersfield who we reported yesterday had gone missing has now been found, police say.

    Millie Milner was reported missing on Monday evening after last being seen in Cowersley.

    She has been found "safe and well" and police have thanked members of the public for their help in finding her.

    A 16-year-old boy has been arrested following violence on a bus in York.

    The incident happened at about 13:00 yesterday, when police were called to the bus and arrested the boy.

    Officers are appealing for witnesses and information about the incident which happened in Acomb.

    In particular, officers are calling for two women, believed to be mother and daughter, who got off the bus on York Road in Acomb shortly before police attended, to get in touch.

  12. Notre-Dame: Sheffield bells to ring in 'solidarity'published at 06:30 British Summer Time 17 April 2019

    Sheffield's Roman Catholic cathedral's bells will be rung later "as a symbol of solidarity" with Notre-Dame cathedral in Paris after it was ravaged by fire earlier this week.

    No ringing was planned for Holy Week but staff at St Marie's Cathedral said they "wanted to show our thoughts and prayers are with Notre-Dame".

    The ringing is also intended to "express our confidence that its bells will one day ring out over Paris and a fully restored cathedral".

    The ringing will take place before the 11:00 Chrism Mass and the Mass of the Lord's Supper at 20:00 on Maundy Thursday.

    The head teacher of North Yorkshire secondary school has stopped all exclusions, saying he does not want to give up on pupils, despite its performance falling as a result.

    Risedale Sports and Community College, in Catterick, North Yorkshire, gave out 85 fixed-term exclusions in 2015-16, but none so far this academic year.

    Colin Scott, who took up the role as headteacher in 2017, said he wanted to increase attendance and "work on the kids," but he admitted keeping some pupils had caused performance figures to "drop".

    Police are appealing for the public’s help to find a missing 14 year old girl from the Cowersley area of Huddersfield.

    Millie Milner 14, was last seen at 21.30 yesterday.

    She is described as a white female, 5ft 4in tall, blue eyes with dark brown shoulder-length straight hair.

    She was last seen wearing black Adidas trainers and a jacket.

    It’s believed she could be in the Cowersley, Slaithwaite, Almondbury, Longwood or Golcar areas of Huddersfield.

    Huddersfield's Think Forensics has been offering CSI training for the school holidays.

    The training included how to examine fingerprints and footprints.

    Sue Procter from the Skelmanthorpe firm said: "For the kids it's a big team building exercise as well as teaching them all about science."
