  1. Race marshal volunteers for wrong Cliftonpublished at 09:20 British Summer Time 15 May 2019

    David Pittam
    BBC News Online

Ever volunteered for something and then really regretted it?

Well Ian Guest, 60, had to travel about 50 miles to fulfill a commitment after getting his Cliftons mixed up.

The Sheffield resident thought he'd signed up to help out at the Park Run in Clifton, Rotherham. But instead, he'd agreed to help out at the Clifton branch in Nottingham, and only realised when he checked the night before.

He felt he owed it to those who had marshalled his races to go, and the Nottingham group would have struggled to go ahead without him, so he hopped on a train.

But he admitted next time he would be "double and triple checking" before he signed up.

They're up against Derby County tonight in the Championship Play-Off semi final, with a 1-0 lead from the first leg.

The two clubs have had a difficult history this season.

Their clash at Elland Road in January was overshadowed by Leeds head coach Marcelo Bielsa's admission he sent a member of his staff to 'spy' on the Rams training the day before the game.

If United make it through they face Aston Villa who beat West Brom 4-3 on penalties, after their semi-final tie finished 2-2 on aggregate after extra time.

They replace others trains that are more than 30-years-old.

Rail company LNER says it will offer extra services to Harrogate, Hull, Leeds, Bradford and Huddersfield as a result of the introduction of the 65 new trains.

The new trains are set to begin operating on the East Coast Main Line five months later than planned.

Plans to introduce the trains in December were abandoned after the electric-diesel locomotives were found to interfere with trackside signalling equipment.

  18. Sheffield's pavement parking 'out of control'published at 16:43 British Summer Time 14 May 2019

    Local Democracy Reporting Service

Campaigners in Sheffield have told a government inquiry that pavement parking is “out of control”.

CycleSheffield has submitted written evidence to the Transport Committee, which is holding an inquiry to explore the problems of drivers parking on pavements and consider possible solutions.

The campaign group, which has more than 1,250 supporters, has submitted a number of photos showing inconsiderate parking.

In one photo a man in a mobility scooter is forced on to the road as a car is blocking the pavement.

Sheffield Council has also submitted evidence to the inquiry, but has declined to give the details.

CycleSheffield said: “We campaign for a cycle friendly Sheffield where anyone can choose to make their journey by bike.

We want cycling to be inclusive and easy, not limited to the quick and the brave.

“Pavement parking is inconsiderate and often dangerous. It has a significant negative effect on attempts to promote and enable active travel in our city."

In a brief ruling at the Old Bailey, they said that the full case would proceed on 4 and 5 July.

It's alleged that Mr Robinson, whose real name is real name Stephen Yaxley-Lennon, committed contempt of court that could have prejudiced a jury deliberating verdicts at Leeds Crown Court last May.

The allegations concern a Facebook broadcast by Mr Yaxley-Lennon which was watched by thousands of people.

Mr Yaxley-Lennon was jailed on the day by the trial judge, but that was quashed by the Court of Appeal after it ruled that his case had been unfairly handled.

After more than six months of complex legal delays, Lady Justice Sharp said the contempt trial should go ahead.
