    Sheffield's flamboyant former Lord Mayor Magid Magid has been elected an MEP by the Yorkshire and the Humber electorate.

    A former refugee, Mr Magid was Sheffield City Council's first Green Party mayor and its youngest at 29.

    He took to Twitter to thank voters after the result was announced:

    The Lib Dems increased their vote share by 9.3% - the Greens by 5.1%.

    Turnout in the area was 33% - pretty similar to the turnout in the last European elections in 2014.

    Police and forensic teams continue to investigate what happened after six children were taken to hospital and two later died in the Shiregreen area of Sheffield.

    Here's what we know so far:

    • Six children were taken to hospital
    • Two boys, aged 13 and 14, died shortly afterwards
    • Four others - aged seven months, three, 10, and 11 - are conscious and remain in hospital for treatment
    • A man, 37, and a woman, 34, have been arrested on suspicion of murder and remain in custody
    • A post-mortem examination is due to take place
    • Extra police patrols will be carried out over the weekend, but police say there is "no wider risk to the community"
    • The Air Ambulance used the grounds of nearby Hartley Brook Primary Academy to land
    • The incident was not a shooting, according to police, despite social media rumours to the contrary
    • A number of police cars and ambulances have been at the scene
    • The incident is no longer "live" but inquiries are ongoing, according to police
