Sgt Patrick Davison got in touch with the Minstermen asking for a home strip to display at a pub on the Mount Pleasant military base.
The shirt will be among the football memorabilia on show at the Crab and Sprocket pub when it is transformed into a sports bar this summer.
Sgt Davison, who serves with the Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers, said: "The bar is a very important part of life out here due to the social aspects of everybody being able to get together after a highly stressful week.
"It has been running since the Falklands War, which is why it is in desperate need of a re-vamp."
York City said they were happy to oblige and sent their best wishes to everyone at the Crab and Sprocket.

Emergency crews in South Yorkshire have issued a warning to people considering starting bonfires after being called to one which had gone out of control yesterday.
Firefighters tackled the blaze on Horninglow Road in Sheffield at about 19:30.
While it started as a "controlled burn", the fire had soon spread - prompting a call to South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue.
The service is asking people to think again about starting non-essential bonfires during warmer weather.
A cash machine has been left damaged and "smoking" following a York shop burglary, police say.
Alarms were triggered at about 03:15 this morning at the post office and convenience store in on North Moor Road, Huntington.
The North Yorkshire force says officers were on scene within minutes but the suspects had left the area.
The front door of the shop had been smashed,and an ATM inside was damaged and smoking.
Firefighters were called to deal with the smoke.
Police say it's not yet known what was stolen in the burglary.
Anyone with information about the incident is being asked to contact them.
A Leeds charity is celebrating its 30th anniversary by sharing stories from young women across the city whose lives it has helped improve.
Getaway Girls, based in Harehills, empowers girls and young women aged 11 to 25 to build their confidence, develop new skills and take positive risks.
It was set up in 1989 and since then has supported more than 12,560 young women who have been affected by issues such as domestic violence, teenage pregnancy,poverty and sexual exploitation.
Emily shared her story of how the charity helped her after she was involved in a controlling relationship and became pregnant at 19.
By joining the charity's young mums' group she was able to find friendship and support.
"As a young, single mum, you're automatically put into a category," she said.
"Your life is over, no chance of amounting to anything.
"It didn't matter how many GCSEs or A Levels I had, or had, or what my talents were. All my friends were off being normal 19-year-olds and I'm at home with my baby.
"It was nice to spend time with people that actually understood what it was like to be in my shoes."
A celebration event is being held at The Faversham later to mark the birthday milestone.
A farmer has been spoken to by police after sheep escaped from a field and got into the road in part of North Yorkshire earlier, the latest in a series of similar incidents.
Police say they have received several reports of sheep loose on the A171 in Cloughton in the last few days, with officers called to the area again at about 09:00 this morning.
The sheep were cleared off the highway and left in a field with officers set to speak to the farmer to make sure fencing is improved "to prevent further occurrences".
Officers have warned motorists of the importance of driving safely and patiently on North Yorkshire’s 6,000-mile road network.
A spokesperson for North Yorkshire Police said: "We’re grateful for everyone’s calls alerting us to the issues at Cloughton so we can help sort things out.
“Sheep are just some of the unexpected hazards that drivers on North Yorkshire’s rural roads can encounter."
A shop in Rotherham has been stopped from selling knives or blades after it sold a knife to a 17-year-old police cadet.
It's illegal to sell knives to anybody under the age of 18.
Eight stores were visited by the police cadet, who then tried to purchase a knife.
Of the eight stores that were visited, seven of them rightly refused to serve the teenager.
The unnamed store that sold a knife to the cadet was told to immediately remove and stop selling bladed articles.
South Yorkshire Police praised the staff members who refused to sell the knives.

A West Yorkshire council is expected to declare a "climate emergency" later today and pledge to become carbon neutral by 2030.
Carbon neutral means removing as much carbon dioxide from the atmosphere as is put into it.
If approved, it would see Wakefield councillors put together a plan to cut carbon emissions in local government over the next six months.
Over the last three years, the council says it's installed solar electric panels on all its buildings and put in a new "efficient" gas heating system at Wakefield Town Hall, reducing the electricity demand from the building by almost 50%.
The council says it aims to achieve the biggest reduction in carbon emissions by upgrading the district’s street lighting with LEDs using a smart control system.
Two witnesses have spoken about how they helped a man who was hit by a tram in Sheffield overnight.
Earlier we told you that a 39-year-old man was in hospital after being hit by the tram at about 22:20 on West Street.
He suffered serious head injuries, with two men rushing to help.
Mohammed Bux, a dental student at Sheffield University, heard the tram brake and a horn and saw a man injured.
He said: “It was paralyisng and even though I’m medically trained for emergency situations I guess it’s different in the moment.”
Using a hoodie and a jumper, Mohammed and friend Hassun El Zafar tried to stem the bleeding as an ambulance was called.
Hassun said people tried to help the man. He added: "It says a lot about the city that so many people stopped, we were just trying to help. I really hope he’s OK.”

A gull managed to smash the windscreen of a police patrol car after being hit on the M1.

The force joked that the "suspect" was wanted after causing damage to the vehicle, giving it a partial ID of GU11.
A motorist spotted a police officer chasing a wanted man on foot and pulled over to give the officer a lift.
The "helpful" driver picked up the policeman on Belgrave Drive as he pursued a suspect on a bicycle.
Humberside Police said the officer had been in a patrol car but had abandoned it on Pickering Road to give chase.
The cyclist had started to get away from him but the assistance of the driver, he was able to catch up and arrest the suspect, who has been charged with theft, burglary and fraud.
The driver's identity is currently unknown and police have appealed for him to get in touch so they can thank him for his help.
A man's been arrested on suspicion of drug-related offences after police raided a property in Scarborough last night.
The man, who's in his 30s, was held on suspicion of possessing cocaine and cannabis and possessing cocaine with intent to supply.
A number of items were seized including mobile phones, suspected controlled drugs, an amount of cash and suspected drugs paraphernalia.
He's been released while under investigation, according to North Yorkshire Police.
The club could have its licence revoked amid claims of sexual touching by dancers.
