    The incident happened at about 22:20 last night.

    The exact circumstances are "still under investigation", according to police.

    Anyone who saw what happened is being asked to contact the South Yorkshire force.

    Voters across Yorkshire and the whole of the UK are heading to the polls for the European Parliament elections.

    Seventy-three MEPs will be elected in nine constituencies in England, and one each in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.

    Each region has a different number of representatives based on its population - ranging from three MEPs in the North East and Northern Ireland to 10 MEPs in the South East.

    Polling stations in the UK will be open until 22:00.

    Results will not be announced until all EU nations have voted over the next three days - with the whole process completed by 22:00 on Sunday.

    Several crews from across North Yorkshire were called out to The Forresters Arms in Kilburn on Tuesday night.

    No-one was injured in the incident in the village, which is midway between Helmsley and Thirsk.

    The headteacher of Prince Henry's Grammar in Otley has apologised, after pupils made the discovery while doing the religious studies paper on Monday.

    Gary McNeil's son was one of the students sitting the exam, he said: "It's beyond belief that it has happened."

    The last surviving member of Hull's 'Headscarf Revolutionaries', who campaigned to change safety laws for fishermen, has been welcomed with applause while visiting the House of Commons today.

    Yvonne Blenkinsop was part of a group of women who pushed the government for improvements in the 1960s and today she returned to Westminster for the first time in 50 years.

    There was applause after Commons Speaker John Bercow said that "through their actions countless lives have been saved".

    He said: "We salute her and her fellow women and we extend the warmest welcome to her to the House of Commons."

    Their campaign started when 58 fishermen based in the port lost their lives in three separate trawler tragedies in the space of less than a month in 1968.

    Among the measures the campaign won were safety checks before vessels left port, radio operators for all ships, improved safety equipment and a "mother ship" with medical facilities for all fleets.

    A public consultation is under way over work on the six sections of the road which are still single carriageway, including the junction on the A1M at Scotch Corner.

    Highways England says the work will improve journey times and contribute to the future economic growth of the north of England.

    Police say they are concerned about a missing Beverley man who is believed to be "sofa surfing" in Hull.

    Andrew Malster, 28, was reported missing on Wednesday 1 May and since then there have been reported sightings of him in Hull.

    Humberside Police say there are unconfirmed reports of him "sofa surfing," an expression which refers to someone staying with friends on a temporary basis.

    Police say he has "no known family members but has a number of friends" and they want to make sure he is safe.

    Anyone with any information is asked to get in touch with officers.

    A man who is calling for mandatory training on sepsis for all NHS staff, after losing his arms, legs and part of his face, is set to share his story in Hull next month.

    Kirklees Council is looking to snap up a town centre site in Huddersfield – and rumours are that it will host a new library, art gallery and museum complex.

    It forms part of the council’s soon-to-be-announced town centre masterplan, which aims to “evolve” the offer and move away from retail to embrace heritage and architecture "unique to Huddersfield”.

    A report into the purchase is due to be heard at next week’s council cabinet meeting at Huddersfield Town Hall.

    Part of the report reads: “Officers have recommended the completion of the purchase “as soon as possible”.

    "No costings have been made public though the asset “is likely to result in expenditure significantly exceeding £250,000.”

    News of the project comes just two months after the council revealed it's looking to secure £25m from the government’s High Street Fund to create “a vibrant cultural quarter” in Huddersfield town centre.
