1. The end of The End: Hull University party cancelledpublished at 13:02 British Summer Time 20 May 2019

A major end-of-year party for Hull students has been cancelled due to poor ticket sales, it's been confirmed.

    Sub Focus

Big name DJ Sub Focus (above) and West Yorkshire indie band Pigeon Detectives (below) were booked to play The End which was due to be held across several city venues on Saturday.

But the event won't now go ahead, with live music and venues company VMS Live blaming "a lack of ticket sales and feedback from students".

Hull University Student Union had decided to work with VMS Live after a review concluded a more traditional end-of-year ball "would not be financially viable without looking into an alternative arrangement".

    The Pigeon Detectives

In a statement, VMS Live said it was looking forward to working with the union on future events and wanted to "work more closely with the student body in future in order to deliver successful events".

Hull University Union said the cancellation meant it was now "unable to offer an end-of-semester celebration".

In a statement, it said: "We are saddened an event we thought would be a great way to mark the end of the year did not get the reaction we hoped for."

The union said many students felt "frustrated and let down by the organisation and communication of this event" and said next year's event would be "planned by students for students".

Tickets for The End, which cost £25, are set to be refunded.

Peregrines have a history of being persecuted in the Dales, but this marks at least the 22nd time a pair has hatched chicks at Malham since the birds returned there in 1993.

RSPB Area Manager Anthony Hills said: “We’re excited to have seen behaviour that suggests the peregrines are feeding chicks.

"The next few weeks are going to bring lots of exciting activity as the parents catch food for their hungry young ones.

"Of course, it won’t be long before these chicks are ready to take their first tentative flights."

Peregrines are the fastest animals in the world and are believed to achieve speeds approaching 124mph when plunging from the sky after prey.

The letter, organised by Labour MP for Hull North Diana Johnson, says surviving victims shouldn't have to wait for the outcome of the inquiry before receiving compensation:
