    Two members of a grooming gang who took advantage of a vulnerable girl in Huddersfield have been convicted of further sex offences.

    Leeds Crown Court heard the girl was "deliberately targeted" for sex throughout her childhood and was taken out of a children's home to be abused.

    Mohammed Akram, of Springdale Street, was convicted of offences including rape, abduction and trafficking.

    Usman Khalid was convicted of sexually assaulting of the same victim.

    The men were investigated as part of a gang that groomed and abused girls, some as young as 11, between 2004 and 2011 in West Yorkshire.

    A 21-year-old woman who went missing after a night out in Leeds has been found safe and well by police.

    Officers have been searching for Hannah Barker, from the Whinmoor area, who was reported missing on Sunday after failing to return home.

    West Yorkshire Police say she has been found on Swinnow Road, in Bramley, at 15:20 today and is now being reunited with her family.

    The force said it was "very grateful" to everyone who helped share a missing person's appeal over the last few days.

    Police officers are trying to find a missing 79-year-old man who's gone missing in Sheffield.

    Fred Colton, who is around 5ft 8ins tall with grey hair and a grey beard, was last seen at about 09:40 this morning in the Bradway area.

    South Yorkshire Police is concerned for his welfare, the force said.

    He is thought to be wearing grey jeans and a black fleece with a grey hoodie on top and could be in the city centre.

    An incident in which a toddler fell between the platform and a train at Beverley station is going to be investigated by the official rail safety regulator.

    The child suffered only slight injuries in the accident, which involved a stationary train and happened yesterday afternoon.

    Because someone was injured, details are being forwarded to the safety regulator which will look at what led to the incident and may make recommendations.

    So-called "platform train interface accidents" are the main cause of injuries on Britain's rail network and they're becoming more frequent.

    Experts say this is partly because of people rushing more and using mobile phones when getting on and off trains.

    Plans to turn a Leeds city park into one of the biggest outdoor concert venues in England have been approved.

    Capacity for shows at Roundhay Park can reach almost 80,000 people after a licensing committee agreed the move ahead of two huge Ed Sheeran gigs.

    The previous limit for live events at the park was close to 20,000 attendees. The star is due to play there on 16 and 17 August.

    More than 115,000 tickets have already been sold for his summer concerts.

    The move puts the park's capacity on a par with Leeds Festival in Bramham Park, but it may be downgraded after the Sheeran concerts take place, the BBC's Local Democracy Reporting Service said.

    A teenage boy has been arrested after a 12-year-old girl was raped in Sheffield over the weekend.

    The girl is said to have been raped in Richmond Heights Woods at about 02:30 on Sunday.

    The 16-year-old was arrested earlier today on suspicion of rape and remains in custody.

    South Yorkshire Police are encouraging anyone who saw or heard anything suspicious in the area to get in touch.

    Police cracking down on drug gang activity in North Yorkshire say they've made five so-called "county lines" arrests In the past week.

    County lines is the name given to gangs and organised crime networks in urban areas exploiting children and vulnerable people to sell drugs in rural areas.

    The North Yorkshire force says it's also made 30 welfare visits to victims of "cuckooing", a practice where drug dealers take over the home of a vulnerable person in order to use it as a base for drug dealing.

    It comes after the BBC revealed that four children have been murdered in the last five years, following contact granted by the family courts to known adult abusers.

    But Labour's shadow policing minister and Sheffield Heeley MP, Louise Haigh, says a review doesn't sound good enough.

    "It's great that they're doing this public call for evidence, but my concern is that it's not actually going to tell us something that we don't already know," she says.

    A new interim head of communications at the South Yorkshire combined authority is earning in one day almost double the weekly average wage in Doncaster.

    The £700 day rate is equivalent to £182,000 a year – some £32,000 more than the Prime Minister Theresa May, who earns £150,402.

    The head of communications will report directly to Sheffield City Region (SCR) Mayor Dan Jarvis (pictured) and managing director Dave Smith.

    In a statement, SCR said: “We are committed to ensuring best value for money. But we also have a duty to best serve the people of the Sheffield City Region. Therefore, on occasion, it is necessary to recruit experts in the field to support the organisation.“

    However, Sheffield Liberal Democrat peer and former Sheffield City Council boss Lord Paul Scriven said the organisation had lost all perspective and it was "totally unacceptable”.

    He said: “This is not some corporate, high-flying organisation. This is taxpayers’ money being spent on a lavish salary for a temporary person."

    More than 100 vehicles were stopped by police in Yorkshire as they clamped down on motorists driving illegally on the motorway.

    Five vehicles were seized by South and West Yorkshire police officers as part of the week-long operation between junctions 30-42 of the M1.

    One HGV which was stopped was seen carrying stone slabs held only with netting, while a van packed to a dangerous level with metal goods was also taken off the road.

    A Leeds woman who's been missing since the early hours of Sunday morning had earlier been picked up by police officers and dropped off at a bus station in the city, it's been revealed.

    Hannah Barker, 21, from Whinmoor, was taken to Pudsey bus station by patrol officers after she was found asleep next to a main road in the city centre.

    A passing driver contacted them at 05:39 on Sunday to report a woman lying on a grass verge off New Briggate, near to the A64 dual carriageway, police say.

    She'd fallen asleep after a night out drinking and officers took her to Pudsey bus station at about 06:15, according to West Yorkshire Police.

    CCTV checks show she walked from the bus station to the junction of Hough Side Road and Swinnow Road, reaching there at about 06:23 - currently the last known sighting of her.

    Hannah is described as white, 5ft 6ins tall, and of large build. She has long mousy brown hair, nose piercings and tattoos on her left arm.

    Det Insp Al Burns said: “The focus of our search to find Hannah has moved to the Pudsey area, given what we have now been able to establish around her movements."

    If there's a vote in favour of industrial action, the union says its members could walk out for one day next month.

    A man whose body was found on a Lincolnshire beach has been officially named as Gary Simpson, 49, from Leeds.

    Mr Simpson's body was discovered on the beach at Cleethorpes last Friday morning, near the former Wonderland Amusements.

    Mr Simpson's family has been informed and specialist officers are supporting them, according to Humberside Police.

    He was working as a roofer in Cleethorpes at the time of his death, police believe.

    Det Sgt Mick Keech said: "A post-mortem examination and forensic tests have proved inconclusive as to the cause of Mr Simpson’s death.

    "Our investigations are obviously still ongoing to ascertain exactly how Mr Simpson died and why he was on the beach and we are providing regular updates to his family."

    The bare-chested man was caught on CCTV climbing up and jumping on the roof of a rapid response vehicle outside Bramley Ambulance Station on Tuesday night, police say.

    He is believed to have been one of three men who walked past the ambulance station at about 23:30 on Tuesday 14 May.

    Yorkshire Ambulance Service has tweeted, external for help to identify the man.

    A Hull MP is planning an event in centre of the city in memory of murdered West Yorkshire politician Jo Cox.

    Ms Cox, who was the Labour MP for Batley and Spen, was killed by a right-wing extremist in June 2016.

    The Labour MP for Hull West and Hessle Emma Hardy says she wants to hold a Great Get Together event on Whitefriargate in June.

    Writing on Facebook, she said: "I hope we can come together as a country and as a city and agree that we can disagree in a polite and courteous way.

    "There is more in common then that which divides us," she added.
