    • The crash happened at about 08:15 on the northbound carriageway near Tinsley

    • A 39-year-old man from Hull has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving

    • The carriageway finally opened again at about 18:00 on Friday evening

    The Highways Agency has announced that the M1 northbound in South Yorkshire has reopened.

    The section between J34 and J35 was closed after a collision between three vehicles at about 08:15.

    Two men died as a result of the collision.

    A 23-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after another man was stabbed and beaten in Huddersfield.

    A 28-year-old man suffered broken bones and stab wounds at a property on Victoria Road on Thursday.

    He remains in a serious but stable condition in hospital.

    Det Insp Mark Catney said: "The local community will be understandably worried about what has transpired, but we will be supporting residents through our high-visibility patrols and offering any reassurance they may need.”

    Officer believe this was an isolated incident, but are appealing for anyone with information to come forward.

    North Yorkshire Police have paid tribute to a special constable who was murdered by an IRA gunman 27 years ago today.

    Glenn Goodman, 37, was shot on the A64 near Tadcaster on 7 June 1992 after stopping a car to make a routine check.

    Writing on Twitter, the force said his death was "a poignant reminder of the risks our extraordinary volunteers face as they step up to help protect the people of North Yorkshire".

    Paul Magee, a member of the IRA, was jailed for life in March 1993 before being released from prison in 2000 as part of the Good Friday Agreement.

    A 39-year-old man from Hull has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving after two men were killed in a serious collision on the M1 this morning.

    The two men died at the scene of the three-vehicle crash, which happened at about 08:15 on the northbound carriageway near Tinsley.

    The suspect remains in custody, according to South Yorkshire Police.
