    Tim Sheens has left his post as head coach of Hull KR after a run of five defeats in six Super League games.

    The Robins are second from bottom in the table, having lost 11 of their 16 league matches this season.

    Sheens, 68, had been at KCOM Craven Park since the start of the 2017 campaign, leading the club to promotion from the Championship that year.

    The Australian won 47 matches of his 84 matches in charge, drawing two and losing 35.

    Hull KR finished 10th in Super League last season, but retained their top-flight status via the Qualifiers.

  2. Harrogate shop worker jailed and ordered to repay £8,658published at 06:30 British Summer Time 6 June 2019

    A cashier who stole more than £8,000 from the North Yorkshire supermarket where she worked has been jailed for 10 months.

    Trina Howard, 47, of Durham Way, Harrogate, took £8,658 while working on the tobacco kiosk at Morrisons in Starbeck.

    Police say the company became suspicious after a stock-taking exercise revealed the kiosk was making losses of thousands of pounds.

    A company investigator then observed Howard during two days in November 2018 and saw that on just one of the days, although she had dealt with 35 cash sales transactions, none were put through the till.

    She pleaded guilty to two counts of theft at Harrogate Magistrates' Court and was ordered to repay the cash she stole.

    The new leader of Scarborough Borough Council says he wants the site where the Futurist Theatre once stood to be filled this summer.

    The theatre was demolished last year and there are plans to build an entertainment complex, dubbed Flamingo Land Coast.

    The Labour leader of the authority, Steve Siddons, said officers were looking at options for a "high quality facility" on the site.

    Improvements are to be made to the section of the A63 under the Humber Bridge following several accidents where the road bends, according to Highways England.

    It follows concerns raised by Hessle Town Council, which claimed action was needed to save lives.

    There will be additional road warnings, chevron signs and the adjacent lay-bys will be closed, with the work expected to be carried out over the next year.

    People who need care are being asked to go to pharmacists, GPs or to call the NHS's 111 advice number if at all possible.

    People should only attend A&E if it's an emergency, according to Rotherham NHS Foundation Trust.

    The event's chairman, Thomas Carrick, said: "Anybody who has anything to do with sheep in the north of England is here today finding out what is going on in the industry."

    A former financial adviser has been sentenced to over 10 years for conning clients out of nearly £750,000.

    Peter Adrian Dilenardo, 50, of Ilkley, showed a "complete disregard" for the victims he defrauded, West Yorkshire Police said.

    Dilenardo, of Ron Lawton Crescent in Burley-in-Wharfedale, was sentenced at Leeds Crown Court to 10 years and three months for fraud offences.

    The court heard Dilenardo advised his clients to take money out of regulated funds and invest them in his company.

    Plans to knock down and rebuild a well-known Grade II-listed pub in Hull near to its current site have been given conditional approval by councillors.

    The Earl De Grey would be moved as part of plans for a major new nine-storey development, including a restaurant, cafe, bar, offices and a 150-bed hotel.

    Councillors today asked the developer, Castle Buildings LLP, to make tweaks to the design of the building.

    Plans to cut the number of firefighters in South Yorkshire's fire and rescue crews from five to four are to be put to a public consultation.

    The county's fire authority is proposing the change as part of plans to save £4m.

    But the Fire Brigades Union says it could put lives in danger as 83 full-time firefighters could be cut.

    Many incidents have already been attended by crews of four, according to South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service.

    The public consultation will run throughout May, June, July and August.

    He was wearing a zip-up hoody with pictures of husky dogs on it and he was also wearing a baseball cap.

    Anyone who has seen him is being asked to come forward.

    More than 1,300 homes and businesses in York and the surrounding area are being affected by a power cut.

    The electricity supply problem is affecting the YO24 and YO26 postcode, which covers areas such as Acomb, Dringhouses, Woodthorpe and Poppleton.

    The YO41 postcode is also affected, which includes areas such as Elvington, Stamford Bridge and Wilberfoss.

    Northern Powergrid says the power cut has been caused by an "unexpected problem with an electricity cable" and should be resolved by about 15:45.

    A notebook and other items belonging to Britain's most famous hangman has sold at auction for £20,000.

    Albert Pierrepoint, from Clayton, near Bradford, executed about 600 people during a 25-year career that ended in 1956.

    The sale, at Boldon Auction Galleries in South Tyneside, also included a plaster cast of his face and hands, and a silver watch chain he wore at work.

    The notebook and items were sold to an "eclectic" private collector.

    His leather-bound execution ledger includes personal details of those hanged, including the prisoner's name, age, height, weight and drop, and site of execution.

    A 14-year-old girl who went missing from her home in Hull yesterday has been found, police say.

    Maddison Edwards "has been with one of our partner agencies", according to Humberside Police.

    She is "safe and well" and members of the public have been thanked by the force for sharing an appeal.

    The victim's bag was stolen at Molly Malones on West Street on Sunday 17 March, St Patrick's Day.

    The card was then used at the BP garage on Bramall Lane, with the card then being cloned to take a number of phone and store card contracts out at Meadowhall and on Fargate.

    The two people pictured could help police with their inquiries, the force says.

    A warning has been issued after 18 suspected drink and drug-drivers were arrested last weekend in North Yorkshire.

    Police say 13 involved suspected alcohol offences and five related to suspected drug offences.

    The force is warning further action will be taken this month to get intoxicated motorists off the county's roads.

    Operation Attention will involve extra round-the-clock checks to deter and catch people driving under the influence.

    Roads Policing Sgt Andy Morton, said: “This is an exceptionally high number of arrests, compared to 11 in the same period last year.

    "it demonstrates a blatant lack of regard by individuals for their own safety and that of other road users.”

    An investigation has begun after a cash machine was set on fire in a North Yorkshire village in the early hours of this morning.

    Police received a report at about 00:20 that an ATM in Market Place, Hawes, had been set alight.

    Firefighters attended the scene and extinguished the flames. It is not thought any money was taken.

    North Yorkshire Police say they are keen to trace an old-style dark-coloured Land Rover Discovery which left Hawes in the direction of Bainbridge around the time of the incident.
