    A bus fire has closed part of the M1 near Rotherham this morning.

    It's on the northbound carriageway between junction 34 for Meadowhall and 35 for Thorpe Hesley.

    Highways England say lanes one, two and three are closed northbound while smoke being blown across the carriageway is leading to slow traffic southbound.

    South Yorkshire Fire & Rescue are in attendance.

    Indian officials have begun a risky mission to retrieve the bodies of five climbers discovered days after they went missing in the Himalayas.

    Four Britons - including Dr Richard Payne from the University of York - two Americans, an Australian and an Indian made up the missing climbers, who had been attempting India's second-highest peak.

    Officials told the BBC the operation was "very risky" due to harsh weather, adding success would be a "miracle".

    The bodies were spotted by an Indian rescue mission on Monday.

    The BBC's Shalu Yadav, reporting from the Himalayan state of Uttarakhand, said the retrieval operation was "unprecedented".

    "Authorities told us that the terrain was very difficult and if they were able to retrieve the bodies, it will be nothing short of a miracle," she adds.

    A helicopter carrying four mountaineers from the Indo Tibetan Border police and five Air Force personnel set off towards Nana Devi earlier this morning.

    People in Yorkshire are being urged to help clean up the region's waterways.

    The Canal and River Trust has launched a campaign asking people not to drop plastic waste into rivers or canals.

    The charity estimates more than half a million items of plastic reaches the world’s oceans each year through its waterways.

    It says with the help of local communities this figure could be drastically cut.

    The charity said it was "on a mission to eradicate plastic" from its waterways and urged people to pick up any rubbish they find.

    It said if every visitor picked up one piece of plastic, the canals and rivers could be plastic-free in a year.

    Officers investigating two assaults at a Sheffield nightclub have released CCTV images of a man they want to identify.

    In the first incident a 20-year-old woman was attacked and suffered serious facial injuries at Code Nightclub, on Eyre Street, at about 01:00 on 29 March.

    Another person was also assaulted by the same suspect in the club.

    South Yorkshire Police has asked for anyone who recognises the man in the CCTV to come forward.

    Police are appealing for help to find a 14-year-old girl who went missing from her home in East Hull yesterday.

    Maddison Edwards is 5ft 5ins tall, with brown hair.

    Humberside Police said she was last seen leaving her home on Tuesday.

    She is thought to be wearing a grey hoodie, black leggings and grey trainers.

    Anyone who sees her is being urged to contact the force.

    A decision on whether to reissue the licence of a Sheffield strip club has been pushed back, according to the chairman of Sheffield City Council’s licensing board.

    It comes after a report was submitted to Sheffield City Council in which private investigators claimed they had witnessed dancers performing sex acts at Spearmint Rhino.

    In the report, which is said to have been compiled by two ex-police officers, members from the Women’s Equality Party said strippers breached their licence.

    The group, which has called for the club to be shut down, revealed the details of the acts in a full council meeting in which some elected members walked out, saying it was "too graphic".

    A review of the licence, which happens annually, had been set for next week.

    The council said representatives involved in the hearing have been made aware of the decision to postpone it, but that no new date has yet been set.

    Spearmint Rhino has previously said it imposed strict rules at all of its establishments and was investigating to see if they had been broken.

    The roof of Wakefield's County Hall will be at risk of collapse if it is not fixed quickly, according a council report.

    Millions of pounds is to be set aside for “urgent and essential repairs” to the Grade I-listed building.

    The entire third floor of County Hall has now closed due to damp, amid complaints from council employees in an internal survey that the site has become a “dark and dingy” place to work .

    The roof needs to be completely replaced at an estimated cost of £6.5m which could take two years to complete, the report says.

    Historic England needs to approve the repairs before any work can go ahead.

    Plans to cut the numbers of Police Community Support Officers (PCSOs) in South Yorkshire and instead recruit police constables will be "detrimental to the overall good policing across the county", a union has claimed.

    There are almost 200 PCSO posts across the county at the moment, but this will drop to 116 following a public consultation, according to South Yorkshire Police.

    Instead, more than 100 police officers will be recruited, all of whom will have more powers compared to PCSOs.

    But the Unite union says its members who are PCSOs will lose up to £2,500 a year because of changes in shift patterns as a result of the move.

    The BookTrust event, which took place in the city's Winter Garden, saw under-fives get a free book and take part in group reading activities.

    CCTV images have been released after a man was reportedly robbed by two people holding a knife wrapped in a plastic bag in Sheffield.

    It happened at about 20:00 on 1 April on Wordsworth Drive, with a phone and work van being stolen during the robbery.

    Two men are said to have taken the van from the victim's home address, with tools also being stolen from the van on Palgrave Crescent, Southey Green.

    Two men, aged 18 and 30 from Sheffield, were arrested at the scene on suspicion of handling stolen goods.

    Police officers investigating the incident are now looking to identify the people pictured above as they believe they may be able to help with their inquiries.

    Former Hull FC player Jansin Turgut, who was seriously injured after falling from a car park in Ibiza, is "getting closer" to coming home after undergoing reconstructive surgery to his face yesterday.

    The rugby league player's mother posted an update on Twitter this morning saying he'd had 12 hours of surgery to reconstruct his jaw, cheek bones, nose and eye sockets.

    Carole Butler said the operation "all went to plan" and he could be transferred onto a normal hospital ward "in a few days".

    She said: "It's getting closer to getting my boy home. We could not make this happen so quickly without all your help and support, thank you to everyone."

    The 23-year-old fell from the third floor on 19 May and has been in intensive care in Spain ever since.

    It is planned that he will be flown home in an air ambulance in the near future.

    Police say the motorist was seen "driving erratically" into York and was given a breath test which came back as positive.

    North Yorkshire Police said they later provided an "evidential sample" which was more than three times over the legal limit.

    Police pursued a motorist through the streets of Hull before he fled the scene on foot leaving a mother and baby in the car, it's been revealed.

    The driver reportedly spotted a police vehicle on Rodney Close earlier today and "made off down a couple of side streets" before colliding with a bollard.

    After the motorist fled the scene, officers discovered a baby and mother had been "left behind", according to Humberside Police..

    Officers seized the car for having no insurance and said it would be a "very good idea" for the driver to get in touch with them.
