South Yorkshire Police said she had been diagnosed as being in the early stages of "behavioural variant frontotemporal dementia", which can cause individuals to behave in a manner which is completely out of character.

Det Ch Insp Simon Palmer said: "The investigation found no history between Alan and Marjorie Grayson that provided any explanation to the events of that day, which makes the circumstances so very unexpected and tragic for everyone connected.”

  12. 'State responsible for gambling addict's death' say familypublished at 15:43 British Summer Time 28 June 2019

State authorities should be held responsible for the death of a 24-year-old gambling addict who killed himself after being "past the point of controlling myself", his family has argued during his inquest.

    Jack RitchieImage source, Family photo

Jack Ritchie, from Sheffield, who started gambling when he was 17, took his own life in Hanoi, Vietnam, in November 2017, aged 24.

Mr Ritchie's parents, Charles and Liz Ritchie, have asked that Article 2 of the European Convention on Human Rights - the right to life - be engaged in his inquest

This would have the effect of enhancing the inquest, and happens when the state, or an arm of the state, is considered to have potentially breached its duty to protect the citizen's right to life.

Paul Greaney QC, representing the family during the hearing at Sheffield Coroner's Court, said: "We submit that it is not fanciful to suggest that a breach of that obligation led to Jack's death due to the clear evidence that his gambling addiction was implicated in his death."

  14. Curtains for 'disaster' marriage of Sheffield millionairepublished at 15:13 British Summer Time 28 June 2019

A wealthy businessman from Sheffield and his ex-wife have drawn divorce court hostilities to a close after a judge ruled on the ownership of curtains.

    Sir Andrew Cook

Conservative Party donor Sir Andrew Cook and interior designer Baroness Angelika Hirsch-Stronstorff had been at odds in court.

Lawyers representing Baroness Hirsch-Stronstorff said she wanted £2.8m but Sir Andrew had only offered £2m. The couple have now reached an out-of-court settlement.

But the judge heard that they could not agree on who owned the curtains in a house they had shared in London.

At the Family Division of the High Court, Mr Justice Holman ruled that the curtains should stay at the property but if Sir Andrew sold them, as part of a house sale, in the next five years he must split the money with his ex-wife.

The court heard the pair had run up £1 million in lawyers' bills while arguing over less than £2 million.
