    Police officers are trying to find a distinctive van after it was stolen from the Sheffield branch of the RSPCA.

    The animal charity released video of the van being driven out of the centre's car park, damaging the gates.

    A large image of a dog and a cat are visible on the sides of the van, which was paid for by donations.

    It is thought to have been taken between 22:00 on Friday and 06:40 on Saturday.

    The first new building of the Glass Works development in the centre of Barnsley has opened.

    The library at the Lightbox also provides new community space and has been described by Barnsley Council as the town's "new cornerstone".

    The building's glass exterior is designed to illuminate a new town square as part of the £180m regeneration due to completed in 2021.

    The scheme is to include shops, a cinema, bowling alley and a new market.

    The library building, which opened on Saturday, also features a sanctuary room for people with autism, virtual reality kits for gaming and an events space.

    Climate change campaigners blocking a Leeds bridge say they plan to maintain the barricade "throughout the coming week" and are "willing to risk arrest".

    Extinction Rebellion has blocked Victoria Bridge in Leeds with a large yellow boat and several tents.

    The group want the government to change its target for zero carbon emissions from 2050 to 2025.

    Protests are being staged in five UK cities, Cardiff, Glasgow, Bristol, Leeds, and London and comes after the group staged an 11-day protest in April that brought several parts of London to a standstill.

    An 87-year-old cyclist from York has been airlifted to hospital with "multiple serious injuries," police say.

    Officers are appealing for witnesses after a collision involving a bright blue BMW travelling towards Clifton Moor on the A1237 and a cyclist who was crossing the road.

    It happened on Saturday at about 14:30 between the Copmanthorpe and Woodthorpe roundabouts.

    The man is described as being in a "potentially life threatening condition". The motorist was uninjured.

    The North Yorkshire force wants anyone who saw the accident or has dashcam footage to get in touch.

    A man has been charged with assaulting two police officers at Hull Royal Infirmary.

    A female and male officer were attacked on Saturday while dealing with a man who had been arrested on suspicion of affray in relation to an earlier incident on Anlaby Road.

    One of the officers received minor facial injuries but didn’t need treatment.

    Joshua Butts, from Anlaby Road in Hull, has been charged with one count of common assault on a police officer, and one count of assault on a police officer by beating.

    The 24-year-old, who's also been charged with affray, has been bailed to appear at Hull Magistrates Court next month.

    A 13-year-old disabled girl was verbally abused in a Sheffield park in an incident police are treating as a hate crime.

    The girl was with a 20-year-old woman in a park off St Joseph’s Road, Handsworth, when a man approached them and began shouting at them.

    South Yorkshire Police said the man became "verbally abusive and aggressive towards" towards the teenager and that she was targeted "due to her disabilities".

    The incident happened at about 17:25 on 27 June.

    The suspect is described as white, about 26-years-old, around 6ft 5ins tall, and of slim build.

    He is believed to have brown hair with an unkempt beard, tattoos on his arms and was wearing a grey cap.

    He could have been driving a black Jeep-type vehicle.

    Hull's Arctic Corsair museum ship is to be moved for the first time in 20 years as it goes to a new temporary home.

    Next month, the last surviving sidewinder fishing trawler will be berthed at Alexandra Dock as part of the Environment Agency's £60m River Hull flood defence scheme and the council's Maritime City project.

    The Arctic Corsair will undergo restoration and then be moved to a permanent home in a dry dock at North End Shipyard where it will take center stage in a new maritime visitor attraction.

    Four young boys in North Yorkshire have been praised by police for handing in a "dangerous" knife they found.

    Police say the four boys, all aged approximately 11, had been in Thirsk town centre when they found a 3in (7.6cm) lock knife.

    They took it straight to the police station and handed it in.

    PC Lydia Dunn, said: “We are extremely impressed with the young males for doing the right thing.

    “The lads had a calm and mature approach despite their young age, safety of others was clearly important to them and they have potentially prevented harm to others."

    These are the latest pictures from a street in York which has been closed after a water main burst this morning.

    Yorkshire Water say “We were made aware of a large burst pipe in Walmgate in York earlier this morning and a team was sent to the site as quickly as possible.

    "We have isolated the burst and will continue to work on fixing the pipe.”

    The water which flooded the street earlier has now gone.

    It appears to have left two ruptures in the road surface and has caused damage to the pavement.

    A police officer has suffered injuries to her face and head after being assaulted by a prisoner she was guarding at Hull Royal Infirmary.

    A member of the public had to intervene in the incident at the weekend to help prevent the officer suffering further injuries.

    The Humberside Police Federation, which represents staff, says it’s appalled by the case.

    An ex-soldier from Hull who left the army due to health problems is planning to travel the length of Hadrian's Wall on a specialist wheelchair to raise money for his former regiment.

    Tony Hart wants to pay back the cost of the £10,000 wheelchair bike which the Royal Tank Regiment helped him buy.

    Next month, he plans to travel along the edge of the 84-mile long historic monument, which was built to mark the boundaries of the Roman Empire and to keep the Scots out.

    Steve Bruce has resigned as head coach of Sheffield Wednesday amid reports he is due to be appointed as manager of Newcastle United.

    Bruce was only appointed in January and did not actually take over for another month, guiding them to a 12th-place finish in the Championship.

    The Magpies held talks with Bruce, 58, on Saturday and he is the overwhelming favourite to succeed Rafael Benitez.

    He leaves Hillsborough with assistants Steve Agnew and Stephen Clemence.

    The driver was arrested after "reverse ramming" a police vehicle on Sibelius Road yesterday.

    Humberside Police said its officers made "tactical contact" with the vehicle to "prevent any further pursuit" before chasing down the driver who "didn't run fast enough".

    The force said the suspect was disqualified from driving and was also wanted in breach of bail.

    Police officers are diverting people away from the area.

    The group describes itself as an "international movement" that uses "non-violent civil disobedience" to bring issues such as climate change to the fore.
