    A number of classrooms were trashed and damaged after people broke a window at a Rotherham school.

    It happened between 19:00 and 20:00 on Saturday at St Mary's Catholic Primary School in Maltby.

    Anybody who has any information relating to the damage is asked to get in touch with police.

  2. Further appeal in Hull rape investigationpublished at 16:41 British Summer Time 12 August 2019

    Police officers investigating a rape in Hull earlier this year have issued another appeal for information.

    A woman was attacked in West Park in the early hours of Saturday 9 February, following a night out at the New Griffin pub.

    A large-scale witness appeal was launched following the attack and four people have since been arrested.

    CCTV images have now been released of a man who was in the pub with the woman that night and who police officers want to speak to:

    A solo yachtsman circumnavigating Britain and Ireland had to be towed to safety by a Scarborough RNLI crew at the weekend.

    Sailing against the tide, with a force 8-9 gale forecast, the vessel was 26 miles east of the town when it experienced engine failure on Saturday night.

    Scarborough lifeboat station says its all-weather Shannon lifeboat arrived at the scene at about 20:30.

    On a rough sea, with weather conditions deteriorating, the sailor agreed to be towed to the harbour.

    Scarborough RNLI says it would like to thank the crew of the Success III trawler for alerting the coastguard and staying with the threatened yacht until the lifeboat arrived.

    One of Hull's major thoroughfares was brought to a standstill as mourners paid their respects to entertainer Joe Longthorne.

    The 64-year-old, whose career spanned five decades, died on 3 August after a long-running battle with cancer.

    Hundreds of people lined more than a mile of Hessle Road where Joe Longthorne grew up and later earned a living as a rag and bone man, before breaking into the big time on prime-time TV.

    Cath Paige, a family friend, said: "I've known him since he was five years old. He was good fun and used to sing in the street."

    Another mourner, Jack Horner, said: "He was just like me, and you could speak to him. I went to see him hundreds and hundreds of times."

    Others remembered him as a "loveable rogue" and recalled stories of him coming back to Hull in his Rolls Royce to give former neighbours a ride in the vehicle.

    A man's been jailed for life for stabbing his friend to death after becoming angry about an accusation in a Facebook message.

    Dean Dagless confronted and attacked St John Lewis outside his home in Bramley, Leeds, on 26 February.

    Leeds Crown Court heard Dagless had gone there because his girlfriend had received a message from Mr Lewis.

    Dagless, 48, who was convicted of murder, was jailed for a minimum of 20 years by Judge Tom Bayliss QC.

    After stabbing Mr Lewis twice with a kitchen knife, Dagless continued to threaten him as he lay dying.

    Sentencing him, Judge Bayliss said: "Your behaviour was callously extreme that day.

    "You returned to the scene of the murder to retrieve a bag as he lay dying. You were heard saying, 'I hope he bleeds to death'."

    A man's appeared in court charged with child abduction after the disappearance of a 15-year-old Vietnamese girl in York.

    The girl, who speaks no English, went missing from her tour group in York on 6 August and has not been seen since.

    Ho Quang Ngoc, 25, of no fixed address, appeared at York Magistrates' Court charged with child abduction and facilitating a breach of immigration laws.

    He was remanded in custody and is due to appear before York Crown Court on 16 September.

    North Yorkshire Police said officers are still searching for the missing girl.

    Seven other people arrested in connection with the case have been released under investigation.

    Police said warrants had also been executed in the Staffordshire area and a man and a woman had been arrested and remain in custody.

    Drivers are being urged to have their say as part of Sheffield's ongoing clean air consultation scheme, external, which could see van drivers, taxi drivers and bus drivers charged to enter the city centre.

    The city council says air pollution contributes to 500 deaths a year in Sheffield, causing strokes, lung cancer and cardiovascular disease.

    The authority aims to bring the city's air quality within legal limits by 2021.

    One proposal is to charge small vans and taxis £10 a day, with buses and lorries being charged up to £50.

    Private car drivers will not be charged.

    The council hopes it will force drivers to buy less polluting vehicles.

    A mother and son who murdered a runner after pursuing a vendetta against him over his use of a footpath crossing their land have been handed life jail terms.

    Gary Dean's body was found in a ditch in woods near his home after he had been shot in the back with an air rifle and repeatedly beaten with rocks and branches.

    The 48-year-old was killed by Scott Dawson, 41, and Carol Dawson, 72, after regularly using land belonging to them for running prompting a long-running feud, prosecutors said.

    A jury heard how, as part of the disagreement, Mr Dean's home was daubed with offensive graffiti and he was falsely accused of attempting to lure children into the woods with him.

    After carrying out his murder last September, the Dawsons intended to dispose of his body by using a digger, but were prevented from doing so when his remains were discovered by a walker, a court heard.

    Scott Dawson, of Allotts Court, Barnsley, was jailed for life with a minimum of 31 years and Carol Dawson, of Stonewood Grove, Barnsley, were jailed for life with a minimum of 26 years.

    Sentencing the Dawsons, Judge Jeremy Richardson QC said: "You both fed off the venom within each other.

    "This toxic mixture led to murder."

    He said that the pair had carried out the killing in a "wicked and cruel" fashion.
