Ben Muscroft, 42, once weighed in at 27st 8lbs after eating a diet of a bacon sandwiches for breakfast, fish and chips for lunch, and pizza for dinner, along with cans of cider or two bottles of wine.
The full extent of his health problems became apparent on a trip to China in 2012 (pictured), during which Mr Muscroft had to ask for a seatbelt extension on the plane.
After switching to fruit and homemade dinners he has lost 15st 8lbs to drop from a t-shirt size XXXXXL to a 34in waist.

Incidents of verbal abuse and violence against council staff in York is steadily rising, according to a report into health and safety.
The report says: “Verbal and violent aggression still continues to be a major cause of incidents reported and these are steadily increasing.
“In one instant at an adult care facility a number of staff were injured during an assault.
“In addition the number of incidents involving child aggression is also one of the largest causes of incidents reported."
The report adds the number of serious incidents which must be reported to the Health and Safety Executive by law, increased to 34 last year from 12 the previous year.
The council’s health and safety advisor Lisa Burton: “We are looking at how we can reduce injuries and raise health and safety culture across the local authority.”

Staff have travelled from all over the UK to take part in the demonstration which began in City Square at noon.

Nobody has been charged in connection with his death.
A statement from his family says: "It feels just like yesterday that Kav was here laughing and joking.
“Despite it being a year of complete heartbreak the kind words, videos and pictures that people continue to share assures us that Kav will never be forgotten.
"He is constantly on the minds of all who were lucky enough to have him in their lives and it is still so raw for us.
“We are in the middle of our grieving process, but perhaps healing will become easier when Kav is brought some justice."

A blaze which broke out at a derelict pub in Barnsley yesterday was started deliberately, the fire service says.
Fire crews from five stations were called to the blaze at The Alma, on Church Street, Wombwell.

A group of travellers who set up camp on a sports pitch in Bridlington have been told to move on by police.
Officers say they are using powers to evict the travellers from the site in Gypsey Road.

South Yorkshire's Police and Crime Commissioner says a personality like teenage climate activist Greta Thunberg is needed to change people's attitudes to road safety and using a phone while driving.
Using mobile handsets at the wheel is illegal and attracts six penalty points where drivers are caught, but a report published by MPs on the Commons Transport Select Committee suggests hands-free devices can be just as distracting to motorists.
Dr Alan Billings, however, warned that widespread prosecution of drivers could cause a public backlash unless the level of risk was properly understood by the public
He said: “We need a Greta Thunberg to tell us how to behave properly on the road.”
Police helicopters were called in to escort flights into Leeds Bradford Airport overnight after two pilots reported having a laser shone at their aircraft.
The flights, both operated by Jet2, were on approach to landing when the incidents occurred.
The pilot of a flight from Alicante reported the first incident at 23:30 when about four miles from the runway.
The second was reported by the pilot of a flight from Fuerteventura at 00:46 between the A65 and Cardigan Fields Retail Park.
A spokesperson for Leeds Bradford Airport said: "The necessary safety procedures were immediately activated, which resulted in Air Traffic Control deploying a police helicopter to escort incoming flights."
They added the airport was monitoring the situation and liaising with the police.

An East Yorkshire MP is backing calls for the law to be tightened on the sale and use of air powered weapons.
Diana Johnson, MP for Hull North, is meeting with Jenny Dees who started the campaign after her son, Stanley Metcalf, was shot dead by his great-grandfather with an unlicensed air rifle last year.
Stanley died in hospital after being hit in the abdomen by a pellet at Sproatley, near Hull, on 26 July.
A petition started by Stanley's parents to change the law has so far been signed by 11,000 people.
Under Stanley’s Law it would be an offence to use, possess or acquire an air weapon without an certificate.
Firefighters have been tackling a large fire at a waste site in the Yorkshire Dales overnight.
North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue say the blaze broke out at a commercial property in Brompton on Swale near Richmond.
At its height five fire engines were needed to tackle the blaze.
