Man fined after Sheffield tram-train crashpublished at 12:19 British Summer Time 12 August 2019
A man has pleaded guilty to driving through a red light and crashing his HGV into a brand new tram-train in Sheffield.
The crash happened on Staniforth Road on 25 October, the first day the new tram-train service operated.
Kevin Hague, 61, of Duncan Street, Rotherham, appeared at Sheffield Magistrates' Court and pleaded guilty to the offence.
The prosecution said it wouldn't offer any evidence on a second charge of careless driving.
The tram-train had about 80 passengers on board when Hague’s lorry ran through the traffic lights where the rails cross Staniforth Road in Sheffield, hitting it and derailing it.
Several passengers were taken to hospital with minor injuries.
Hague was fined £250 and given three penalty points.
