    Organisers of a Countryfile Live event in North Yorkshire are asking people to "ignore" their sat nav systems and instead follow event signs after long delays to get to the venue.

    Frustrated motorists have been telling BBC Radio York about the hours of delays they have endured trying to get to the event at Castle Howard.

    Organisers said that a delay in traders getting to the venue is to blame for the major congestion which drivers have experienced today.

    As people look to leave, they're being asked to look out for signs and not to follow sat navs.

    A cocker spaniel which helps to fetch life-saving medication when his owner becomes ill has won an award.

    Clive, from Thorngumbald. has been crowned Pet Hero of the Year with his work helping owner Michelle Rust, who has Addison's disease, a rare deficiency of the adrenal glands.

    When Michelle's blood pressure or steroid levels drop, Clive can detect the change and fetches her medication.

    Before Clive, Michelle was forced to call for an ambulance.

    He was given the national award from The Pet Health Club.

    A man has been jailed for life with a minimum of 25 years after he admitted "ferociously murdering" a woman he had "pestered" for sex.

    Karar Ali Karar stabbed 21-year-old Jodi Miller 15 times at a house on Milan Road, Harehills, Leeds, on 25 February to "teach her a lesson".

    Leeds Crown Court heard Karar, 31, accosted Miss Miller and offered to pay her for sex - to which she said no.

    He then stabbed her with a kitchen knife so hard it broke in three places.

    Miss Miller had been visiting a friend on Milan Road on 24 February when Karar, who lived in a nearby flat, first visited and asked her for sex.

    She returned the next day to the same flat where Karar was told to leave after again hounding her for sex. He then attacked her.

  5. Beach users urged to fill up Fin the fishpublished at 14:35 British Summer Time 15 August 2019

    A 7ft-long sculpture dubbed Fin the Fish has been installed in Scarborough in an effort to stop plastic bottles being dumped in the sea.

    The sculpture has been put on the seafront by the borough council, Yorkshire Water and marine experts from Hull University.

    The artwork acts as a container to collect plastic bottles which otherwise might end up in the sea.

    Geraldine Tebb, from Yorkshire Water says: "Fin won't solve the problem, but it's about trying to remove some plastic from one beach and getting people to think about their behaviours around plastic."

  7. Tom Bell shooting: Two men found guilty after trialpublished at 14:16 British Summer Time 15 August 2019

    Two men have been found guilty of killing Doncaster boxer Tom Bell who died after being shot through a pub window.

    Mr Bell, 21, died from a shotgun wounds to his chest and abdomen after being attacked at the Maple Tree, in Balby, Doncaster, on 17 January.

    Scott Gocoul (right), 30, of no fixed abode, was found guilty of murder following a trial at Sheffield Crown Court.

    Joseph Bennia, 28, also of no fixed abode, was found guilty of manslaughter.

    Both men are due to be sentenced later this afternoon.

    CCTV images have been released of two women police want to speak to in connection with an attack at a Sheffield nightclub.

    It's alleged that a woman was punched several times in the face in the attack following an argument in the Tiger Works nightclub in June.

    Two women, one who has blonde hair and another who has brown hair, are wanted by police in connection with the attack.

    A man and a woman have been attacked while using a cash machine in Leeds, leaving the man with a serious stab injury, say police.

    The incident happened on Royal Park Road, in Headingley, at about 02:00 this morning.

    Officers say the couple, both aged 21, were approached and threatened by a man while using the machine.

    When the male victim attempted to intervene he was assaulted and stabbed, leaving him with a serious Injury.

    The suspect, who police say left the scene empty handed, is described as a slim, black male, with dreadlocks, about 5ft 7ins tall and wearing a blue tracksuit.

    A road in the Yorkshire Dales closed after torrential rainfall caused a landslip and weakened a bridge has reopened two days ahead of schedule.

    The B6270, which links Grinton and Reeth with the Richmond area of the Dales, suffered severe damage when floods hit the region two weeks ago.

    North Yorkshire County Council says one section of the road became impassable when a section of it collapsed.

    The road was due to reopen on Friday but contractors managed to complete the task two days early and the road opened yesterday evening.

    A man from Bradford has been jailed for six years for sexually abusing a 13-year-old girl.

    Mohammed Farooq Miah, 29, of Grosvenor Road, Mannigham, pleaded guilty to eight counts of sexual activity with a child and a further count of making an indecent image of a child.

    Det Supt Sarah Jones said: “West Yorkshire Police takes cases of child sexual exploitation extremely seriously.

    “We hope this outcome will give others the confidence to report offences knowing they will be supported by specially trained officers who will investigate every report and take appropriate action."

    Britain's Jess Learmonth and Georgia Taylor-Brown's were disqualified from the World Triathlon Olympic qualification event in Tokyo after crossing the finish line hand-in-hand.

    A photo finish initially gave 31-year-old Learmonth, from Leeds, victory but the pair were later deemed to have broken a race rule.

    An appeal was rejected and compatriot Vicky Holland was upgraded to third.

    Bermuda's Flora Duffy was awarded the win ahead of Italy's Alice Betto.

    Britain's Non Stanford, the 2013 world champion, finished seventh.

    Shots have been fired at two properties in Sheffield in what police think are linked shootings.

    The shootings happened five minutes apart on Sunday evening - one on Bishopsholme Close, Shirecliffe, and another on Lindsay Avenue, in Parson Cross.

    Two men on a dirt bike were seen in the area of both incidents.

    Nobody was injured in the shootings, but police are trying to find out who was involved.

    A library user has been banned after accessing “inappropriate content” on public computers in Wakefield Library.

    The person was one of 13 people who’ve been barred from entering the building in the last six-and-a-half years.

    Another library user was banned for refusing to leave during an emergency evacuation and another was told not to return after behaving in a “drunk and disorderly” manner.

    Since the start of 2013, others have been barred for using offensive language, behaving “indecently” and acting in a “threatening manner”.

    A total of 28 people had been barred from libraries across the rest of the Wakefield district during the same time.

    The majority of incidents related to behaviour deemed to be inappropriate or threatening, though two people were banned from one venue for what was branded "offensive sexual behaviour".

    Julie Russell, from Wakefield Council, said: “Whenever we receive a complaint about a customer’s behaviour, we review the evidence and make a decision based on that evidence of any potential action."
