    Ex-Sheffield United and Bradford City striker Dean Saunders has won his appeal against a jail sentence for failing to take a breath test.

    Saunders, 55, was jailed for 10 weeks by District Judge Nicholas Sanders when he appeared at Chester Magistrates' Court on August 28.

    The former Doncaster Rovers manager admitted failing to comply with a roadside breath test and failing to provide a breath specimen.

    Judge Steven Everett has quashed the immediate jail term and instead suspended the sentence for 18 months.

    Judge Everett, the Honorary Recorder of Chester Crown Court, also ordered Saunders to do 200 hours unpaid work in the community. His 30-month road ban remains.

    A Sheffield boxing legend has been honoured with the unveiling of a plaque in his memory.

    Brendan Ingle guided four fighters - Johnny Nelson, Naseem Hamed, Junior Witter and Kell Brook - to world titles from his Wincobank gym

    He died in May last year at the age of 77.

    The plaque was unveiled this morning at his gym.

    Holidaymakers can get a free bus to an East Yorkshire seaside resort today in a bid to boost out-of-season tourism.

    Businesses in Bridlington are paying for the coach from Sheffield to the town.

    Up to 48 people will get the free travel if they have already booked accommodation in Bridlington.

    If successful, it is hoped the Brid Bus service will also run from other cities and towns.

    It leaves Sheffield at 18:00 today and returns on Sunday afternoon.

    Van drivers in West Yorkshire are being warned by police to watch out after a spate of thefts in the county.

    A police spokesperson said there had been a recent increase in the number of vans being stolen, particularly Ford Transit and Mercedes Sprinter models.

    The force has advised drivers, external to make their vans as secure as possible by properly locking them and parking them in well-lit areas..

    A man who died after his car crashed into a house in Sheffield last month has been named as 25-year-old Bradley Moore.

    Mr Moore was driving along Windmill Greenway in Halfway at about 02:30 on Sunday 29 September when his red Audi TT left the road.

    It hit a house at the junction with Rotherham Road.

    Mr Moore died at the scene.

    In a statement, Mr Moore's family said: "Bradley was a kind and innocent young family man who gave us endless amounts of love and laughter.

    "We will love and miss him forever."

    Anyone who saw what happened is being asked by police to come forward.

    Two police officers were taken to hospital with injuries to their faces and necks after being attacked during a 999 call in Huddersfield.

    The attack happened after officers responded to an emergency call on Royds Avenue in Paddock at about 20:35 yesterday.

    Three men and one woman have been arrested on suspicion of assault with intent and remain in custody.

    The two male officers have been released from hospital.

    A family of four from North Yorkshire were taken to hospital following a laptop fire this morning.

    It happened at about 01:10 in the living room of a house in Stockton on the Forest where a charging laptop was left on a sofa, sparking the blaze.

    Smoke detectors woke the family up who were then able to escape to safety.

    Two adults and two children were taken to hospital suffering from the effects of breathing in smoke.

    One of the largest travelling fairs in Europe opens in Hull later today.

    Hull Fair, which has more than 300 attractions, runs until Saturday 12 October.

    The fair dates back to the 13th Century.

    This year, two big wheels will be sited at the fair for the first time, offering people what organisers promise will be one of the best views of the city.

    A dog has died after it was shot in Doncaster earlier this week.

    It happened at about 22:00 on Wednesday on Clay Lane in Armthorpe.

    The dog was put to sleep because of the injuries it had suffered.

    Police are also investigating reports of shots being fired in the area yesterday at about 11:55.

    Nobody was injured in either incident.

    A 30-year-old Doncaster man has been arrested on suspicion of possession of a firearm and criminal damage and remains in custody, police say.

    Plans to build a block of council homes in Ripon, one of the UK's most sinkhole-prone cities, have been abandoned due to the geological risk.

    Harrogate council said 17 proposed units at Allhallowgate could not progress.

    The decision followed problems with ground stability at the site, it added.

    Ripon sits above a layer of gypsum - a water-soluble rock which leads to the formation of large underground caves which can collapse.

    A major sinkhole saw 12 properties in the city evacuated after a deep hole appeared in 2016.

    Last year,a supermarket was closed when a hole opened up at the back of the store.

    Hope Foundry Music and Arts Production (MAP) works with young people who can't access mainstream education.

    MAP, which has been based on Mabgate for over a decade, offers vulnerable teenagers a chance to achieve qualifications in creative subjects outside of mainstream education.

    The charity pulled together £1m to buy the Grade II-listed building so it can continue operating at its base just outside the city centre.

    Relatives of four airmen who died when their plane crashed in a field during World War II, including one from South Yorkshire, have helped unveil a memorial to them.

    The aircraft is believed to have had engine failure after a raid over Nazi-occupied France on 9 January 1942.

    Four of the six servicemen on board the Wellington bomber died when it hit a tree in a field near Wythall, Worcestershire.

    They were: Sgt Charles Morrey, 20, from Barnsley; Pilot Sgt Doug Butterworth, 20, from Rochdale in Greater Manchester; Sgt Brian Franklin, 21 from Gloucester; and pilot officer Bunny Burnham, from New Zealand.

    Mr Burnham's relatives, who were at the tree planting and plaque unveiling ceremony described it as "emotional".

    People in Huddersfield can have their say later on plans to end a specialist treatment at the town's Royal Infirmary.

    A meeting at the John Smith Stadium will discuss whether to transfer patients needing vascular surgery from Huddersfield to Bradford Royal Infirmary.

    It's thought the proposal could potentially affect 800 patients a year who would have their treatment moved from Huddersfield to Bradford, according to the NHS.

    Campaigners have been battling to keep full hospital services at the HRI for over four years.
