    Heavy rain forecast for Thursday is likely to cause problems for already flooded areas of South Yorkshire, according to the Environment Agency (EA).

    Five severe flood warnings, deemed a threat to life, remain on South Yorkshire's River Don, external, with flooding in the area likely to continue until Wednesday.

    There are also 21 flood warnings for South Yorkshire, external, meaning flooding is expected and 12 flood alerts, meaning flooding is possible

    The EA's Andrew Denville believes further downpours later in the week will only make things worse.

    He says: "It looks like there'll be enough volume of rain to exacerbate the already saturated catchments.

    "And the track of the storm looks like it could cause further flood impacts in these already saturated communities."

    The fire service says it's received about 3,000 calls and rescued more than 200 people in the last few days.

    More than 40 road closures are in place and train and tram services are affected.

    An RAF Chinook helicopter has been drafted in to bolster flood defences in Doncaster.

    The company behind a huge fertiliser mine being built in North Yorkshire has published a revised two-phase plan for its development, after announcing a "construction slow down" in September.

    The future of the mine was thrown into doubt after Sirius Minerals cancelled plans to raise £403m through a bond sale.

    The company says it will now seek to raise an initial £470m by the end of March next year, to fund the construction of mineshafts and the first section of a tunnel near Whitby.

    It says the the rest of the tunnel, and processing and shipping facilities at Teesside, will be deferred for between 12 and 24 months, and financed separately.

    The project is set to be the world's largest mine for polyhalite, a naturally occurring fertiliser which is used in agriculture. The mine is due to open in 2021 and create more than 1,000 jobs.

    The plans include a 23-mile (37km) tunnel to transport minerals to a processing plant near the former Redcar steelworks.

    A crowdfunding appeal to raise £50,000 to help those affected by flooding in South Yorkshire is nearing its target.

    The South Yorkshire Community Foundation set the target following heavy rain which lead to the flooding of homes.

    The money raised will go towards helping families who have been displaced from their homes and had their properties damaged by the flood waters.

    Halifax's Hannah Cockroft set a new world record to win her fifth consecutive T34 100m title at the World Para-Athletics Championships in Dubai last night.

    Cockroft, 27, clocked 16.77 seconds to win her 11th world title.

    The five-time Paralympic champion now holds the world records for every T34 distance from 100m to 1500m.

    On a rare rainy day in Dubai, Cockroft joked that she "might as well have been in Yorkshire".

    "Sub-17 felt like it was going to be next year's goal," she added.

    "It still felt a little out of my league. I haven't pushed that quick ever, so I'm not sure how I just did it."

    A blue plaque marking the life of one of West Yorkshire's war heroes is due to be unveiled in Leeds later.

    Flt Sgt Arthur Aaron, from Roundhay, was posthumously awarded the Victoria Cross for gallantry after his death in 1943, aged 21.

    Flt Sgt Aaron was captain of a bomber which came under fire while approaching Turin in Italy. A bullet broke his jaw and tore away part of his face.

    He died five hours after bringing his plane safely in to land.

    A blue plaque dedicated to the RAF pilot will be unveiled at St Gemma's Hospice this morning.

    In 2000, a statue dedicated to Flt Sgt Aaron (pictured) was erected on Eastgate in Leeds after a public vote.

    The fire service says it's received about 3,000 calls and rescued more than 200 people since persistent rain on Thursday caused flooding in South Yorkshire.

    Deputy Chief Fire Officer Alex Jones says: "Appliances and specialists from around the country are supporting us.

    "It started off in Sheffield, moved to Rotherham and now Doncaster has the brunt of it."

    Hundreds of people in the village of Fishlake were evacuated from their homes over the weekend and Doncaster Council is now urging anyone who stayed behind to get in touch so the fire service can get them out.

    A rest centre has been set up in nearby Stainforth which is providing help and support for residents.

    Two people have been arrested on suspicion of murder following the death of a man in Rotherham at the weekend.

    Emergency services were called to a property on Denman Street at about 09:30 on Sunday evening after reports a man had been seriously injured.

    A 26-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene.

    He has not yet been formally identified and a post-mortem examination has not yet taken place, according to police.

    A 32-year-old man and a 29-year-old woman from the Rotherham area have been arrested on suspicion of murder and both are currently in custody.

    Officers are keen to hear from anyone who may have seen or heard anything suspicious in the Denman Street area on Sunday evening.

    A school severely damaged by flooding in Kilnhurst, Rotherham is to remain closed as parents have begun crowdfunding to pay for repairs.

    The full extent of the damage hasn't yet been assessed, but pictures from the BBC helicopter show the primary school completely surrounded by floodwater.

    A crowdfunding page has been set up by the Friends of Kilnhurst Primary to raise money for repairs and replacement items at the school.

    At least £5,000 has been raised over the weekend, beating their target of £3,000.

    The body of Ronald Portz, 30, was discovered at an address on Dodthorpe shortly before 01:00 on Saturday.

    Police said they had been granted a 36-hour extension to question a woman who was in custody on suspicion of murder.

    Detectives said they believed it was "an isolated incident with no risk to the wider public" and Mr Portz's family was being supported by officers.
