    For the first time in its six-year history Scarborough will not be a host town for the Tour de Yorkshire next year.

    Scarborough Council's confirmed it didn't put the borough forward as a start or finish location for the 2020 running of the race.

    The town's North Bay has hosted a finish of the race every year since it began in 2015.

    The council says the town will not host the race because it's been chosen as the location for the national Armed Forces Day celebration in June.

    Council leader Steve Siddons said: “Because of the timing of the Tour de Yorkshire race, our capacity to host both events is not possible."

    Thieves have stolen a 97-year-old man's mobility scooter in East Yorkshire, say police.

    The scooter (pictured) was taken during a burglary at a property in Hessle.

    Officers say It was stolen from a garage on Northfield Avenue some time between 29 October and 3 November.

    Humberside Police is appealing for anyone who sees it or knows anything about the robbery to get in touch.

    A chiropractor whose patient's neck broke during treatment has told an inquest she had "never experienced anything" like it.

    Arleen Scholten was treating 80-year-old John Lawler at Chiropractic 1st in York in August 2017 when he became unresponsive.

    His family were later told in hospital his neck was broken and he had multiple spinal fractures. He died the next day.

    A criminal investigation into his death ruled out any charges.

    Mrs Scholten said what happened on the 11 August was "rare and unusual".

    The inquest continues.

    A plan to build more than 500 homes next to an historic York nature reserve has begun.

    Askham Bog, in York, is a wetland habitat and Site of Special Scientific Interest.

    It's on the site of an ancient lake left behind by a retreating glacier 15,000 years ago.

    Builders Barwood says its plans could help ease the city's housing shortage and is appealing against a City of York council decision to reject the application to build next to the bog.

    Yorkshire Wildlife Trust runs the reserve and has raised £30,000 to fight the proposed development.

    Broadcaster and naturalist Sir David Attenborough has given his support to the campaign against plans to build near the reserve.

    He says: "So much of the natural world is in peril and now, more than ever before, ancient places like Askham Bog must be protected."

    The planning inquiry, which began on Tuesday, is set to last three weeks.

    Up to 80 soldiers have arrived in Doncaster to help shore up the banks of the River Don following severe flooding in the area.

    The personnel, from the Light Dragoons, are moving sandbags to reinforce the banks of the river near Fishlake and Stainforth.

    A second man has been charged with conspiracy to commit murder after two men were shot in West Yorkshire, police say.

    The men, aged 22 and 27, were seriously injured in the shooting on Huddersfield Road in Liversedge on 4 November.

    West Yorkshire Police say they have charged 30-year-old Khamier Masood, from Dewsbury, with conspiracy to murder.

    He's due to appear at Leeds Magistrates' Court today.

    Another man, 32-year-old Umar Ditta, of Larkspur Way, in Wakefield, appeared at Leeds Magistrates' Court charged with conspiracy to murder yesterday.

    He is due to appear at Leeds Crown Court on 10 December.

    Two other men, aged 24 and 25, who were arrested in connection with the incident have been released under investigation while inquiries continue.

    The Environment Agency (EA) "got it wrong" over the flooding of a Doncaster village, the council has claimed.

    Doncaster mayor Ros Jones said Fishlake wasn't identified as a risk area by the EA.

    A severe flood warning, meaning there was a threat to life, was issued for the village by the EA after heavy rain last week.

    Hundreds of homes in the village were later evacuated due to flooding.

    Ms Jones admitted the council itself could have reacted quicker, but had to base it's response on information from the EA.

    She said: "In some instances, at the very beginning, the Environment Agency didn't get it right.

    "But after that, we got it and as soon as we got that advice we got out there with the sandbags."

    The EA is being contacted by the BBC for its response to Ms Jones' claim.

    One of the surviving children of Sarah Barrass and Brandon Machin fears they could go on to kill "because that's what mum and Brandon did".

    Barrass and Machin, who is her half-brother, strangled Tristan and Blake Barrass, aged 13 and 14, in Shiregreen, Sheffield, in May.

    The pair were sentenced to a minimum of 35 years in prison at Sheffield Crown Court.

    They had both previously admitted murder, conspiracy to murder all six of their children, including Blake and Tristan, and five counts of attempted murder.

    All the surviving children, who cannot be named for legal reasons, are under the age of 13.

    The court heard the children wanted their parents to go to prison for "300 years".

    The two older, surviving children - one of whom they tried to drown in a bath - have been left "emotionally broken" by the actions of their parents, jurors heard.

    In a victim impact statement, the court was told one of them feared becoming a murderer.

    Kama Melly QC, prosecuting, told the court: "When [the older two children] were told Sarah and Brandon had pleaded guilty to the murders of their brothers and the attempted murders of them, [one of them] said they were worried they would become a murderer when they were older because that's what their mum and Brandon did.

    "They said they didn't want to be like that."

    There is no road replacement available to call at the station due to local road closures.

    The "earliest" estimate for the line to reopen at Rotherham Central is Friday, it adds.

    A man and a woman have been charged with the murder of a man in Rotherham at the weekend.

    Emergency services were called to a house in Denman Street, Eastwood, at about 21:30 on Sunday, following reports a 26-year-old man was seriously injured.

    He was later pronounced dead at the scene.

    While his family are aware, the man has not yet been formally identified, police say.

    A post-mortem examination has concluded he died as a result of a stab wound to the chest.

    Dimitrijus Jakimovas, 32, and Indre Barysaite, 29, both of Denman Street, Rotherham, have been charged with murder.

    They have been remanded into custody and are due to appear before Sheffield Magistrates’ Court later.

    Anyone with information about what happened is being asked to contact police.

    The prime minister has announced more support for communities in parts of northern England affected by flooding.

    Boris Johnson made the commitment following a meeting of the government's emergency Cobra committee yesterday.

    Jon Trickett, shadow minister for the Cabinet Office and Labour MP for Hemsworth, in West Yorkshire, said Mr Johnson's proposals were "too little too late".

    About 500 homes have been flooded in Doncaster with more than 1,000 properties evacuated in areas hit by the floods.

    Hundreds of people in Fishlake, near Doncaster, have fled their homes after the village was submerged and the fire service said it was continuing to rescue people.

    The five "severe" flood warnings along the River Don in South Yorkshire have now been removed, but 20 flood warnings, external - meaning "flooding is expected" - remain in place.

    Repairs to more than 70 landmark beach chalets in North Yorkshire which were damaged by a tidal swell are expected to cost about £90,000, it's been revealed.

    The sea damaged 72 wooden chalets in Whitby last month, destroying 12 of them completely.

    A report to Scarborough Council states: “The tidal swell was caused by unusual conditions for early October, brought about by high spring tides and strong winds

    “The chalets generate income of over £100,000 per year and it is therefore essential these are replaced to protect this income stream."

    The brightly coloured huts are rented out to holidaymakers for prices ranging between £600 to £1,300 annually.

    The council's cabinet has now agreed to approve the money from its insurance fund to pay for the works.
