    A 22-year-old man has become the seventh person to be arrested after a shotgun was fired in Arnold in June.

    Police say the weapon was fired towards the driver of a vehicle on Roundwood Road but no-one was hurt.

    The man remains in police custody.

    Of the other six people who have been arrested, three have been released on bail, two have been released under investigation and one has been charged with possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life.

    Police have made a fresh appeal for witnesses after a robbery and fire at the Twinlakes theme park in Melton Mowbray.

    Thieves stole £2,000 in cash from the attraction's reception building after threatening a security guard with a crowbar and holding him against his will at about 04:40 yesterday.

    The building was also deliberately set alight. There were no injuries.

    The park, in Melton Spinney Road, has been closed to the public since the robbery.

    A lorry has freed itself after getting wedged under a bridge on the A5 near Hinckley.

    Leicestershire Police said it was called to the incident at 10:55 BST after reports of the lorry being wedged under the bridge, where there was a build-up of traffic.

    At 11:41, Highways England tweeted: "The lorry has freed itself and all traffic is running OK."

    Remain MPs from the across the East Midlands have reacted with anger and consternation at the news the government will seek to suspend Parliament on the week of 10 September, making it unlikely politicians will have time to pass laws to prevent a no-deal Brexit.

    Prime minister Boris Johnson said a Queen's Speech would take place after the suspension, on 14 October, to outline his "very exciting agenda".

    Leader of the Independent Group and Broxtowe MP Anna Soubry said Mr Johnson was trying to "stop people's democratically elected representatives doing our job".

    People's Vote campaigner and Derby South MP Dame Margaret Beckett accused the prime minister of "trashing the constitution".

    "In the referendum, Boris Johnson promised the people a great deal. Now he is trying to force on us a no-deal for which neither the people nor Parliament have voted," she said.

    Meanwhile, Leicester South MP Jon Ashworth called the move "an affront to democracy".

    Former Tory leader Iain Duncan Smith added the decision to suspend Parliament was "not sinister at all", and the dates for suspension covered "pretty much" the same period as party conference recess.

    Highways England has received reports of a lorry getting wedged under a bridge on the A5 near Hinckley.

    It says highways officers and Leicestershire Police are "attending to check" on the alleged incident.

    The agency advised people to allow extra time for possible delays.

    Traffic cops seized a car in Derby overnight after two men were found crammed into the boot.

    The red Peugeot was stopped at the junction of the A38 and A52 at Markeaton Island at 02:20, which led to officers discovering the pair packed into the back of the car.

    The driver, a 19-year-old man, was dealt with at the scene and the car was seized after it was discovered he had no insurance.

    Derby department store Bennetts has closed for a second day.

    Signs were put in the Iron Gate shop's window yesterday telling customers it would only be a temporary closure and apologised for any inconvenience.

    The firm went into administration in February and was bought by London Sole Company.

    BBC Radio Derby attempted to contact the firm but has yet to receive a response.

    The M1 northbound has reopened after it was closed this morning due to a broken down lorry.

    The vehicle has been recovered from between junctions 24A and 25 and the road was fully reopened by 11:00.

    Some of Derby City Council's own officials say they have "strong concerns" about the planned redevelopment of the Assembly Rooms.

    The city council needs to get planning permission before it can start work but heritage officers say the design should be rethought.

    The city's conservation area advisory committee also objects to the current plan on architectural grounds.

    The Theatres Trust supports the redevelopment generally but says it can't yet give it its backing.

    The council's planning advisers have said harm created by the changes would be outweighed by the significant benefits in reopening the Assembly Rooms.

    Now those puppies are all grown up and solving crimes of their own.

    On Monday, police dog Astro (above), assisted by a police helicopter, helped find two men suspected of a burglary in Wigston.

    One man was found by the crime-fighting hound hiding in a field, after running along a canal path.

    The other man was found hidden deep in canal reeds under a large branch.

    Two men, aged 41 and 43, were arrested on suspicion of a non-dwelling burglary.

    A 44-year-old man has been jailed after admitting having sex with a 15-year-old girl, external.

    Nottinghamshire Police said the offence took place in July 2018 and was reported to them by the victim.

    Steve Wright, of Prest Avenue, Mansfield, pleaded guilty at Nottingham Crown Court to penetrative sex with a girl under 16 and was jailed for three years and seven months.

    Det Con Adam Taylor said: "Wright pleaded guilty at the very last minute due to the compelling forensic evidence and was given the maximum sentence allowed."

    A man has been taken to hospital after a car came off the M1 near Loughborough this morning.

    Emergency services were called at 02:24 BST after the car was found in a ditch off the northbound carriageway.

    Firefighters from Castle Donington and Loughborough helped get the man out of the car, and he was taken to Nottingham's Queen's Medical Centre.

    He is not believed to have life-changing or life-threatening injuries.

    Twinlakes will be shut for a second day while police investigate a fire that started after an armed robbery.

    Yesterday morning, a group of men armed with crowbars broke into the Leicestershire theme park's reception. At about the same time, 04:40, a fire broke out.

    Police are investigating the link between the two.

    Today the park confirmed it would be closed for a second day, and also that it was one of their security guards who was held against their will and threatened by the thieves.

    Police are appealing for witnesses after a puppy was put down following reports it was kicked in Retford.

    Nottinghamshire Police said the puppy, nicknamed Asher, was taken into the Co-operative supermarket in Welbeck Road on Friday, after reports it was kicked in Ollerton Road, Ordsall.

    Despite the best efforts of vets, the puppy's injuries were too severe and he was put to sleep on Monday.

    Police are appealing for witnesses, but also warned there have been threats of violence made to several children on Facebook in relation to the incident.

    A spokesman said: "This is now being dealt with by the police and anyone else reported to be conducting themselves in this manner will be dealt with robustly."
