There was particular concern about Skegness yesterday evening and the Army was drafted in to help out with any potential evacuations.

However, there's not much to report this morning and thankfully none of the emergency measures in place have had to be used.

  6. Long flood barrier in place at South Ferribypublished at 06:06 Greenwich Mean Time 13 January 2017

    James Piekos
Reporter, BBC Hull and East Yorkshire

I'm out at South Ferriby where a 1.7-mile long temporary flood barrier is protecting the village ahead of the predicted storm surge a little later.

    South Ferriby barrier

High tide is expected here between about 06:45 and 07:15.

It's been a very tense night for residents here, with few able to get a good night's sleep.

Local residents tell me they've been getting ready in case of flooding but they tell me they're "reassured" by the presence of the barrier.

This was the scene at Whitby Harbour a little earlier as Ian Hugill, from Scarborough and Ryedale Mountain Rescue Team, checked water levels at high tide.

As high tide came and went, the water had not breached surrounding roads and buildings amid worries about a predicted storm surge along the east coast of England.

With less than an hour to go until high tide here in Boston, the water's certainly looking higher than normal near the John Adams Way bridge.

    BBC Radio Humberside

It's been fine at Bridlington this morning.

The waters have been higher than normal but there's been no flooding.

The high winds which were previously forecast haven't materialised either.

    Caroline Brockelbank
    Reporter, BBC Radio Humberside

I'm out at Hessle Foreshore where East Riding Council has three trucks with sand bags and pumps prepared for any flooding ahead of this morning's predicted storm surge.

The high tide hasn't reached us here in Hessle yet, but the forecast strong winds haven't materialised which is a good sign.

More now on the people who chose to stay at the Meridian Centre in Louth rather than their own homes because they had concerns about the potential east coast storm surge.

We spoke to Emma Credland, from East Lindsey District Council, who's helping out there:

We've begun our breakfast show an hour early as the county readies itself just in case and you can listen live here.

At this point it's very much a game of wait-and-see for emergency services ahead of this morning's expected storm surge.

However, preparations are very much in place up and down the coast, including evacuation centres.

The Lincolnshire-based Lives charity, whose volunteers aim to get help deliver care in the first moments of a medical emergency, has set up its stall in the Meridian Centre in Louth.

The team there is due to be briefed on the very latest at 05:00 this morning ahead of the high tide at about 06:30.

More details as we get them.
