The idea is to get clothing directly to people who need it.

People just donate their unwanted coats to the rail on Freeschool Lane in the city.

Those in need can then simply help themselves.

It's organised by Compassionate Lincoln, who said they'd shared a photo of a similar idea in another city:

Yesterday we revealed that it could add £4 to an annual bill for average properties.

Marc Jones, Lincolnshire's Police and Crime Commissioner, says the rise means the force's resources stay the same after national cuts.

He says: "We've been investing in body-worn video (pictured), and allowing them to carry mobile devices... we'll continue to explore these kinds of ways of keeping police on the streets."

  10. Extra hour for Grantham A&E branded 'ridiculous'published at 11:01 Greenwich Mean Time 7 February 2017

    Harry Parkhill
    Reporter, BBC Lincolnshire

Campaigners have branded plans to extend Grantham A&E's opening times by an hour "ridiculous".

United Lincolnshire Hospitals NHS Trust has confirmed it will lengthen hours to 08:00 to 18:30 at the end of March.

It comes after the department had to shut overnight because of unsafe staffing levels.

Campaigner Melissa Darcey is not happy:

The trust running the hospital - the United Lincolnshire Hospitals Trust (ULHT) says there is a national shortage of doctors and they are "very much affected by this".

Reducing the opening hours of Grantham A&E was "the safest option for the provision of emergency care" in Lincolnshire.
