  3. The ultimate paintjob: Lancaster to get a new coatpublished at 09:03 Greenwich Mean Time 22 March 2017

    Alex Rhodes

I felt immensely proud of myself when I managed to paint a door without making too much of a mess last week so I don't envy the job Lincolnshire's Aviation Heritage Centre have got in front of them.

Today they're beginning the process of giving the Lancaster Bomber Just Jane a fresh lick of paint and they've already stripped it back to bare metal in preparation:

It's going to cost around £20,000 to repaint and will take a week to complete.

General Manager - Andrew Panton - says it hasn't been seen like this for quite sometime:

    Quote Message

It's been about 40 years since the old layer of paint was applied and it's had about six layers on top since then. So it's been quite a job getting the old paint off and it'll certainly be a big job getting the new coat on but it's all being done by professionals.
