  1. Nigel's making a name for himselfpublished at 11:23 British Summer Time 21 September 2017

    Scott Dalton
    Presenter, BBC Radio Lincolnshire

Apparently the name Nigel is dying out, but I've found lots of Nigels in Lincolnshire.

People who've called up to tell me about Nigels they know are:

    • David in Horncastle who says his postman is called Nigel
    • Flo in Billinghay points out that Guy Martin called his dog Nigel
    • Nigel in Gosberton called up to say that he is a Nigel (obviously)
    • Di from Market Rasen knows a Nigel near Wragby
    • Tom says there's a pastor in Mablethorpe called Nigel
    • Jean in Boston says her son, Nigel is a policeman in Horncastle
    • Joan from Martin says her son in law is called Nigel. She says "If you want anything doing, just ask Nigel. He's lovely."
    • Linda from Coningsby says Nigel the chimney sweep is well known in her area
    • Elaine from Hedgehog Care has a patient called Nigel. He's blind and he walks in circles.

So there are loads of Nigels in Lincolnshire.

I think my favourite is this chap - Kathleen describes him as "my beautiful Nigel":

    Lucy Parry
    BBC Local Live, Lincolnshire

Controversial plans for a large energy plant at Orby near Skegness have been dropped.

The 1.8 hectare site was part of the Triton Knoll offshore windfarm.

But the firm behind the project says advances in technology means it no longer has to build it.

A substation will be built though at Bicker Fen.

The Triton Knoll wind farm will be built 20 miles off the Lincolnshire coast.

The plans envisaged a 60km underground cable linking the turbines to the national grid, a substation at Bicker Fen, and the now defunct bid for a 1.8 hectare energy plant at Orby.

This is an appalling crime committed against an elderly lady whilst she was on holiday with her daughter. This occurred just off one of Skegness’ main roads into town and, although late in the evening, I would hope someone has seen something. Even the smallest of detail may help us trace those responsible”.

    BBC Local Live, Lincolnshire

Police in Lincolnshire are trialling an electric car as part of plans to make the force the most environmentally-friendly in the UK.

The county's police and crime commissioner Marc Jones says he wants operations to be more sustainable - and electric vehicles are part of that.

Some forces, like the Vatican Police, already use electric vehicles like the one below, but Mr Jones says they're more likely to be a Nissan Leaf or similar.

Mr Jones says he's also ordered the use of LEDs when ordinary lightbulbs need replacing and other green measures.

He says it will eventually save money, giving the force more to spend on crime-fighting.
