    A project for a roundabout at an "accident blackspot" is to get a £2m funding boost.

    29 people have been injured in accidents at the junction on the A46 near Welton, north of Lincoln, in five years.

    The government is helping to fund the project to help reduce accidents and problems caused by extra traffic from planned local housing developments.

    A crackdown on rogue landlords in Gainsborough has led to the "largest fine issued" to a landlord for renting out properties without the proper licence.

    One landlord was fined £108,000 for not licensing eight of his properties under West Lindsey District Council's new selective licensing scheme.

    The authority believes it's the largest fine in the country to be issued to a landlord for this kind of offence.

    Four people in total have been prosecuted under the scheme, they were collectively fined £213,000.

    It aims to improve standards for tenants.

  6. Police forced to defend hate awareness videopublished at 17:50 British Summer Time 19 October 2017

    The Deputy Chief Constable of Lincolnshire Police says people who've made derogatory comments about a hate awareness video could be "arrested and taken to a police station".

    He was forced to defend a video produced by the force, external aimed at tackling misconceptions about British Muslims.

    DCC Craig Naylor says police will take an assessment of whether any of the comments break the law and take action.

    It could be a cat-astrophe for non animal lovers, but feline fans in Lincoln are in for a treat.

    A new "cat cafe" is to open in the city.

    The Leola Lounge will be o-purrrr-ning their doors towards the end of this year or early next year.

    The owners say "you will be able to relax and enjoy the quiet aroma of the cafe whilst being surrounded by friendly and lovable felines."

    A first aid charity is hoping to have trained 300 people in life saving CPR skills by the end of a tour in Lincolnshire.

    St John Ambulance has been training people with the help of a mobile classroom.

    BBC Radio Lincolnshire's 'Save a Life' campaign has been encouraging people to learn the skill after a newsreader suffered a cardiac arrest and was saved by a passer by.

    St John Ambulance will be at a supermarket in Gainsbrough tomorrow, and hopes to train 49 people with the skill to hit their 300 target.

    An electro-punk music duo named after a Lincolnshire town and featuring a singer from Grantham are to perform in the county tonight.

    The Sleaford Mods, who take their name from the town of the same name,will perform at the Engine Shed in Lincoln.

    The electro-punk duo have won plaudits for their abrasive style performed in singer Jason Williamson's Lincolnshire accent.

    The duo have appeared on BBC show 'Later with Jools Holland' and have teamed up with The Prodigy in the past.

    The MP for Gainsborough has criticised the House of Commons after a vote caused a symbolic defeat to the government.

    The majority of MPs voted to pause the roll out of Universal Credit after the Conservatives were told not to take part in the vote.

    But the result wasn't binding on the government.

    Sir Edward Leigh said that "surely, when we vote, it should have some effect."

    It has famously hosted Richard III and Henry VIII but this weekend Gainsborough's Old Hall will be filled to the rafters with dozens of ales as part of a beer festival.

    Up to 60 beers will be on offer, as well as a handful of ciders and perries.

    It's also the first time the festival will offer prosecco alongside more traditional fare.

  13. Top secret research centre involved in mustard gas findpublished at 15:23 British Summer Time 19 October 2017

    A top secret military research centre has become involved after the discovery of mustard gas in Lincolnshire.

    Any contaminated soil found in the Roughton Wood near Woodhall Spa (pictured) is to be sent to Porton Down in Wiltshire to be incinerated.

    Porton Down is a secretive military base renowned for investigating germ warfare and chemical weapons.

    It's understood the operation could take many months to complete.

    East Lindsey District Council says the MoD will be footing the bill for the extensive work, not the local council.

  14. Man attacked by "baby faced" youth after night outpublished at 14:45 British Summer Time 19 October 2017

    A gang of youths attacked a man after a night out in Lincoln.

    The 40-year-old victim was set upon by the group, one of who is described as being "baby faced", on High Street on September 24 at around 02:00.

    Another member of the group is described as around 26-years-old, tanned with receding swept back hair.

  15. Universal Credit "deliberate attack on poor and vulnerable"published at 14:23 British Summer Time 19 October 2017

    Lincoln MP Karen Lee says that the government's new Universal Credit benefits system is a "direct and deliberate attack on poor and vulnerable people".

    The roll out of the new system, which hopes to combine all existing benefit types into one, has been criticised for the time it takes to pay claimants.

    In a symbolic vote, MPs backed a pause to the rollout of the new system after Tory MPs were told to abstain.

    But the outcome of the vote isn't binding.

    Boston and Skegness' Conservative MP Matt Warman also took part in the debate.

    There's always a touch of healthy rivalry in a city with two universities.

    That came to life last night at the Cathedral cup, in which football teams from the University of Lincoln and Bishop Grosseteste University met on the pitch at Sincil Bank.

    It was the third annual cathedral cup and the University of Lincoln won back bragging rights after beating Bishop Grosseteste University 5-1.

    The Heritage Lottery Fund is donating nearly £500,000 towards the celebration of the 100th birthday of the RAF.

    Aviation Heritage Lincolnshire is hosting a three-year programme of events celebrating the county's contribution to the air force.

    The celebrations will include a re-creation of RAF Scampton as it was during WW1, a special exhibition on Zeppelins (including the Hindenberg disaster, pictured) and a travelling exhibition named 'Heroes of the Airfields and Heroines of the Homefront'.

    The UK's most senior scientist has officially opened the University of Lincoln's newest building this morning.

    Professor Sir Mark Walport (pictured below) is the Government's Chief Scientific adviser and was formerly the director of the Wellcome Trust, a biomedical research charity.

    The Isaac Newton Building (pictured below) cost £28m to build, and now houses the university's Schools of Engineering, Computer Science, and Mathematics and Physics.
