The farmers' union says the closure of a Lincolnshire sugar beet haulage firm creates huge challenges for growers of the vegetable.
The NFU says the closure could have a knock on effect for farmers who relied on the company to transport the beet.
The union is calling on British Sugar to "invest in its four factories and supply chain to ensure they operate effectively".
British Sugar says contingency plans are in place for potential problems like this.
