    A meeting's taking place in Mablethorpe tonight about plans for a new free school for challenging pupils.

    The Wellspring Academy Trust wants to build on the site of the former Monksdyke Tennyson school.

    Some residents have expressed concern about the plans.

    Our Pudsey Goes Viking Team were given some extra support today by members of the RAF Regiment.

    They joined for the fifth day of the Children in Need challenge to walk the 147 miles of the Viking Way.

    Corazon Garcia also got back on her feet for the last leg into Tealby.

    Workers are on strike at the Metsa Wood Timber Yard in Boston today.

    They say it's because of a pay freeze, and "management are not listening to their concerns".

    More than 100 members of GMB trade union started the 24 hour strike at 06:00 today.

    We've contacted the company about these claims and they've declined to comment.

  4. Illegal tobacco smuggling pair sentencedpublished at 16:37 Greenwich Mean Time 15 November 2017

    Two Lincoln men have been sentenced after admitting smuggling tobacco worth £37,000 in unpaid tax.

    Simon Kime, aged 55, from Potterhanworth Road, was jailed for eight months and Andrew Green, also aged 55, from Yarborough Road was given a four month suspended sentence.

    Both made several trips to Belgium and France and sent rolling tobacco back to the UK.

    A letting agent in Grimsby has sent letters to its tenants on benefits warning them of eviction if they're relying on the government's new universal benefit to pay their rent.

    GAP Property have issued the notices in anticipation of delays in welfare payments causing tenants to go into arrears.

    Today in Parliament the Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn raised the issue with the Prime Minister:

    The Prime Minister Theresa May defended Universal Credit, which is currently being rolled out across northern Lincolnshire and said she wanted to see the letter.

  8. Ex Chancellor says 'Brexit will be good for Grimsby'published at 15:02 Greenwich Mean Time 15 November 2017

    Former Chancellor Norman Lamont has hit back at critics who claim his home town will suffer as a result of Brexit.

    Lord Lamont was brought up in Grimsby and is part of a team behind plans to regenerate the town.

    But its predictions about the impact of Brexit on Grimsby that provokes the strongest reaction from the former Chancellor. He claims in 10 year's time "people will forget we were ever members of the European Union".

    Figures in the local seafood industry have called for the area to be given free-trade status after Britain leaves the EU.

    A proposal that has not gone down well with those who are opposed to our departure including the scientist Brian Cox who suggested on social media that everyone in the country should be given a Brexit exemption.

    North East Lincolnshire recorded one of the highest votes in favour of Brexit.

    Almost 70% opted to leave the EU and this area continues to be at the centre of this highly-charged debate.

    New figures show unemployment rose in the East Midlands by 1,000 in the three months to September.

    94,000 people are out of work in the region. That's a rate of 4%.

    In Lincolnshire just over 7,000 people claimed out of work benefits last month.

    The UK's fishing industry, like those around the River Humber are being discussed in Parliament today.

    There are concerns about the risk of leaving the EU without any trading arrangements in place.

    Today fishing industry leaders have told MP's Brexit is an "enormous opportunity" to take control of quotas and sustainability in UK waters.

    Experts have been giving evidence to a Commons Environment committee.

    Bertie Armstrong is from the Scottish Fishermen's Federation, he says they don't want a 'no-deal' scenario, but that current transition plans won't suit the industry:

  12. Petition to name Lincoln street after Beechey familypublished at 13:41 Greenwich Mean Time 15 November 2017

    Now you may have followed a recent project done by the BBC in Lincolnshire looking into the Beechey family and the sacrifices they made in the First World War.

    Five out of eight brothers lost their lives across the world and I followed in their footsteps on a journey of remembrances through Belgium, France, Greece, Turkey, Tanzania and Australia.

    Well I'm not the only person who has been inspired by the family's story.

    Joe Cooke first heard of the Beecheys' 11 years ago and since then he has cleaned Amy Beechey's grave, put a seat in Lincoln Cathedral and a stained glass window in the Friesthorpe church.

    Now he's started a petition calling for a Lincoln street to be named after the family, external.

    So far it's had support from more than 600 people and Joe is going to petition the City of Lincoln council.

    A Lincolnshire school has won the primary school of year award from Swim England, external after teaching every single one of their Year 6 pupils how to swim - despite not even having a pool of its own!

    There's another day of walking ahead for the BBC Radio Lincolnshire team.

    It's Day Five of Pudsey goes Viking - the challenge for Children in Need is to walk the 147 miles of the Viking Way over seven days.

    And it's certainly been a real challenge, yesterday Scott Dalton and Corazon Garcia from the Breakfast Show had to take a break and it's now become a team relay.

    Yesterday afternoon Su Whitaker and Barbara Stimpson took over from Bardney to Woodhall Spa, and Melvyn Prior stepped up to reach Horncastle.

    Today big boss Charlie Partridge and News Editor Maggie Curtis have set off from Horncastle on the route to Tealby.

    Everyone who has been involved in the walking over the last five days says it wouldn't be possible without you.

    People have been walking with the team, donating and keeping everyone's spirits up.

    One of the winners was the Lincolnshire Medical Council, it won the award for Research, Innovation and Education for their project recruiting 26 doctors from the EU to work in GP surgeries across Lincolnshire.

    The project was piloted in Lincolnshire and has since been taken up by the rest of the country helping to recruit 2,000 doctors.

    Other winners were Donna Philips from Lincoln's Scotter Ward who won Nurse of the Year and Chris Cole who was named Paramedic of the Year.

    The Lincolnshire Heart Centre won Clinical Team of the Year.
