  7. Grimsby hopes budget will give green light to regeneration planspublished at 13:21 Greenwich Mean Time 22 November 2017

    Tim Iredale

Those behind ambitious plans for Grimsby are hoping today's budget will bring commitment from the government.

    grimsby

The Greater Grimsby Town Deal aims to bring more than 5,000 jobs and nearly 8,000 new homes to the area.

Plans include spending £20m on the Riverhead Square cinema and restaurant development, with a sports and leisure plan for the recently bought Victoria Mills.

It's hoped granting Grimsby Docks free trade status would make it attractive for investors.

Figures from the private and public sector are working together to regenerate the area.

North East Lincolnshire Council approved the plans earlier this year and are waiting on a decision from central government.

  8. Staff ready for action over jobs threatpublished at 12:21 Greenwich Mean Time 22 November 2017

    Katy Austin
    BBC Look North, Business Correspondent

Staff whose jobs are under threat at a Lincolnshire generator firm say they're ready to down tools over continuing uncertainty about their future.

Last month, Cummins Generator Technologies in Stamford said it would close its plant in Barnack Road - putting 500 jobs at risk.

    CumminsImage source, Google

But the Unite union, which represents workers at the facility says its members have been "betrayed" by the company and left with little information about the future.

The company had told workers that some jobs would be available at a centre of excellence to be set up in the town - but the union says no firm details have been given.

Instead Unite says workers feel the terms they have been offered have been continually altered giving them little option other than to take action.

    Quote Message

The workers feel deeply betrayed by the company and have little faith in the management when it comes to the future

Councillors furious at a decision to allow a railway footbridge to go ahead in Lincoln say they will ask the local MP to intevene on their behalf.

Network Rail drew up plans for the bridge over the level crossing on Brayford Wharf East but they were rejected by the city council because there was no lift.

    Karen Lee

Planning inspectors overturned the decision - meaning the bridge can now be built - but that has sparked anger from councillors and disability campaigners.

They say they are now lobbying the city's MP Karen Lee (above) to step in and ask the inspector to "revisit the issue again".

  16. Planning inspectors face criticism over bridge decisionpublished at 08:38 Greenwich Mean Time 22 November 2017

    Lizzie Musham
    BBC Local Live, Lincolnshire

Planning inspectors are facing criticism after they ruled a city centre footbridge could be built - despite accessibility concerns.

The City of Lincoln Council refused permission for the bridge over the city's Brayford Wharf East level crossing, because the plans do not include a lift - a requirement under the Disability Discrimination Act.

    footbridge

That decision was overturned by the national planning inspector last week - but now the chairman of the city's planning committee says it's gone against national policy

Network Rail, which wants to build the bridge says there are alternative routes that can be used by the disabled and others. and they can also wait for trains to pass to use the level crossing.

    Quote Message

I think it's very disturbing - it seems very strange that we have one rule which applies to the general public and one rule which applies to Network Rail. I think there's quite a lot of confusion in the inspector's mind

Jim Hanrahan, Planning Committee chairman, City of Lincoln Council
