    MPs are calling for a "comprehensive strategy" to boost the steel sector ahead of Brexit.

    They want ministers to cut energy costs, prevent imports of cheap steel and promote the use of UK steel for major projects.

    British Steel in Scunthorpe used to be owned by Tata Steel who had their main research and development centre in Rotherham.

    The Labour MP for Rotherham, Sarah Champion, told a special debate in Parliament that the government was "asleep at the wheel" putting jobs at risk:

    A road where a pedestrian was hit by a car has now reopened.

    Lincolnshire Police say a man in his 80s suffered serious injuries after the incident on Lincoln Road in North Hykeham this morning.

    The deadline for British Steel workers in Scunthorpe to make a decision about the future of their pension will not be extended.

    It has been confirmed that former and current staff have until this Friday to choose between two new pension plans.

    There were calls to put the deadline back over concerns about tight timescales and poor financial advice.

  4. Two more alleged drink drivers named by policepublished at 12:26 Greenwich Mean Time 19 December 2017

    As part of its continuing campaign to shame people charged with drink driving, Lincolnshire Police have published two more names this morning.

    Officers say both men were charged with driving a motor vehicle when above the alcohol limit yesterday.

    Ivars Brencis, 28, of Tamar Court, Grantham. was arrested in Huntingtower Road, Grantham, and Arturs Grieze, 27, of Kedleston Road, Grantham, was arrested in Kedleston Road.

    They will both appear before Lincoln Magistrates on January 15.

    Five other alleged drink drivers were named by the force yesterday.

    A man attempted to rob a shop in Grimsby last night.

    He threatened staff at the Lifestyle express store on Weelsby Street around 19:00 and demanded money but left with nothing.

    Armed officers were called to the scene as a matter of precaution.

    On leaving the shop the suspect was nearly hit in the road by a white Ford Transit van and officers would like to speak to that witness, external.

    Yes you read that right - Lincolnshire County Council says restrictions on roads in Lincoln city centre will last for more than a year and a half - starting on 8 January.

    It's for a new £20m student block which is being built on Park Street.

    Nearby Mint Lane and Beaumont Fee will also be affected.

    A building which has been part of the headquarters of Lincoln coffee company Stokes (pictured above) is being converted into luxury student halls of residence.

    Stokes moved to new premises earlier this year.

    The block will include a concierge service and a cinema according to the company building it.

    A former patient of a transplant surgeon who's facing jail after admitting branding the internal organs of two of his patients says he shouldn't be jailed.

    Simon Bramhall has admitted assault after it emerged he had marked his initials on two transplant patients' livers using an argon beam.

    He carried out a liver transplant on Kathryn Hodgson, 26, from Grantham, 10 years ago - and she says she doesn't care if he did the same to her.

    She is now encouraging people to sign a petition which suggests that Mr Bramhall is not jailed and is instead reinstated to continue his "lifesaving work".

  9. New barrier needed at level crossingpublished at 10:39 Greenwich Mean Time 19 December 2017

    We've just heard from Network Rail which is struggling to get the main A17 between Sleaford and Boston reopened after a series of problems at a level crossing.

    The problems started at around 07:20 when the barrier mechanism failed.

    Engineers were sent out to repair it and had just finished when a lorry hit one of the barriers.

    Toby Higgins from Network Rail told BBC Radio Lincolnshire that means the road will now be closed for some time while a new barrier is delivered.

    Lincolnshire Police are there and have set up a diversion to keep traffic moving.

  11. Swineshead delays: Vehicle hits barrierpublished at 09:59 Greenwich Mean Time 19 December 2017

    The problems on the A17 at the level crossing near Swinsehad Bridge station have got worse.

    Network Rail, which is responsible for level crossings, says originally the barriers failed.

    The firm sent an attendant to work the barriers manually to try and ease the five-mile tailbacks - but then a vehicle hit one of the barriers as it was being lifted.

    The barrier has been knocked off - meaning the road will now be closed for some time. Police are setting up diversions.

    Every year the Grimsby Minster choristers sing to the fish at Grimsby Fish Market and it is happening today.

    It is a tradition that has been going on for many years as I've been finding out.

    More than 2,000 seal pups have been born at Donna Nook on the Lincolnshire coast - breaking the previous record.

    The latest count of pups born on the beach was 2,024, the most ever recorded by the Lincolnshire Wildlife Trust, which manages the beach.

    Donna Nook, which is north of Mablethorpe, has attracted thousands of visitors this year, causing some problems for locals with traffic.

    Here's a tweet from one of the people caught by the level crossing failure on the A17 - long delays being reported. At the moment five miles of standing traffic is reported.
