  2. Zero tolerance approach to speeding 'very difficult'published at 14:54 Greenwich Mean Time 31 January 2018

A zero tolerance approach to speeding would be "very, very difficult" to enforce, the boss of Lincolnshire's Road Safety Partnership says.

    speed cameraImage source, Getty Images

It comes after a police chief said drivers should be punished for going just 1mph over the speed limit.

Chief Constable Anthony Bangham, the lead officer on road policing for the National Police Chiefs Council, told the Daily Mail, external that officers should stop giving motorists a 10% leeway on speed limits.

But John Siddle, from Lincolnshire Road Safety Partnership, says a zero tolerance approach won't work:

    Quote Message

The thickness of a needle could be that one mile an hour, and in enforceable terms it's going to be very, very difficult. We'd have to rethink our whole strategy to try and accommodate that and I don't think we can possibly do that."

    Quote Message

In 35 minutes, I collected three bags of rubbish from a play area close to my home; it makes me feel sick. I walk many of our countryside lanes as a rambler and I have yet to see a gateway or a dyke bottom without some rubbish in."

  4. Military funeral for PTSD suffererpublished at 13:45 Greenwich Mean Time 31 January 2018

A military funeral to commemorate a soldier who served alongside Prince Harry has been held at Lincoln Cathedral today.

    Funeral

Warrant Officer Nathan Hunt served alongside the Prince in Afghanistan in 2008.

The married father-of-one was found dead by police officers at his home in Lincoln on 2 January this year.

He had previously been diagnosed with mental health issues linked to combat stress.

Nathan's family say they want more support for soldiers returning from combat zones but stress that they don't blame the army for his death.

    Quote Message

I don't see Nathan's death as any different to if he had been shot on the battlefield. He is a casualty of war. He saved hundreds of lives during his career in the Army and if his death can do the same then that would be a fitting tribute. We have to end the stigma that comes from post-traumatic stress disorder."

  16. Move over Yorkshire, Lincolnshire tea arrivespublished at 09:02 Greenwich Mean Time 31 January 2018

    Harry Parkhill
    BBC Local Live, Lincolnshire

For centuries Yorkshire folk have lorded it over us yellow bellies because we have to grudgingly accept that Yorkshire tea is perhaps the finest in the country.

Well, today that comes to an end.

    Lincolnshire tea

For the first time ever, a specialty tea blend has been made especially for Lincolnshire's hard water.

The Lincolnshire Tea company has hand blended the brew from East African and Assam leaves and says it has a "biscuity" character to it.

I can confirm that it is indeed far better than tea produced by our friends north of the border.

I'm sure there are no hard feelings, even if there may be hard water in our region.

    Tina North, Local resident

We're officially launching our "binvestigation" to find out who is responsible to give them a big pat on the back.
