  20. Marine apprenticeships on offerpublished at 17:24 Greenwich Mean Time 6 March 2018

The Humber is the UK's busiest trading estuary but the maritime industry is struggling to recruit people for jobs as harbourmasters, pilots and dock managers.

Pilots in the cabin of a boat.

Nationally there's been a sharp fall in the number of people starting apprenticeships, but in the Humber area, port operator ABP says they're helping to fast-track new recruits.

The Humber handles 40% of all the UK's sea born trade but it's a sector that has a poor visibility in schools when it comes to marine careers.

Bespoke marine apprenticeships aim to bridge the gap, training future marine pilots and dock masters.

ABP say future job prospects of the marine and pilot apprentices are huge.

The amount of government funding for maritime training has been doubled as sea born trading continues to grow.
