  5. Three charged after spate of ram-raids across the eastpublished at 15:40 British Summer Time 19 April 2018

    Two men and a teenage boy have been charged in connection with four ram-raids across Cambridgeshire, Norfolk and Lincolnshire.

    The men and the 16-year-old boy were arrested by officers from the Eastern Region Special Operations Unit on Tuesday, following a raid in Isleham, Cambridgeshire.

    They have each been charged with four counts of conspiracy to commit burglary in relation to break-ins at the following shops:

    • Co-op in Long Bennington, Lincolnshire, on 20 March
    • Co-op in Fulbourn, Cambridgeshire, on 6 April
    • One Stop in Feltwell, Norfolk, on 16 April
    • Co-op in Isleham, Cambridgeshire, on 17 April

    They are due to appear before magistrates at a later date.

    Humberside Police is fighting crimes against badgers, external.

    The force says issues of badger digging and killing is more common than people might think.

    Badgers and their setts are protected under the Protection of Badgers Act 1992 and other relevant wildlife and animal welfare legislation.

    They can only be killed or their sett disturbed under licence from Natural England in limited circumstances.

    Officers are working with East Yorkshire Badger Protection Group, external (EYBPG) to drive down wildlife crime which they say is barbaric and unnecessary.

  9. Inquest jury to hear circumstances of windmill deathpublished at 13:19 British Summer Time 19 April 2018

    A pre-inquest review has been held into the death of volunteer Peter Lett at Heckington Windmill in February.

    At the time windmill operators said Mr Lett's clothing had become caught in an engine he had been testing.

    The hearing, at Lincoln's Cathedral Centre, was told the 53-year-old father-of-three died from multiple injuries.

    It also heard Mr Lett had been putting together an engine procedures guide, but had not yet completed a risk assessment specifically for the machine.

    In August a jury will be asked to examine the circumstances of Mr Lett's death..

  10. CCTV appeal after caravan park raidpublished at 12:47 British Summer Time 19 April 2018

    It's a bit grainy, but Lincolnshire Police have released this image of a man they would like to speak to about a burglary in the early hours of today.

    Officers say it happened at the Seacroft Caravan Park at Trusthorpe.

  12. Rail disruption after train's brakes overheatpublished at 12:22 British Summer Time 19 April 2018

    The fire at Wickenby, near Market Rasen which we told you about earlier, turns out to have involved a train on the line between Grimsby and Lincoln.

    Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue has confirmed that four fire engines were called to the railway line close to the vlllage earlier this morning.

    The fire service used thermal imaging cameras to make sure the train was safe and engineers are now inspecting the train.

    It means there will be delays on the line until at least 13.00.

    It's been announced today that one of the BBC Proms concerts will come to Lincoln later this year.

    Stravinsky's The Soldier's Tale will be performed at the Lincoln Drill Hall, which was home to the 4th Battalion of the Lincolnshire Regiment.

    It's the second time the Proms concerts have travelled outside London. Last year they visited Hull as part of the City of Culture events.

    The owners of Grimsby-based Young's Seafood have confirmed the company's been put up for sale following months of speculation.

    Young's recently announced it's creating around 200 jobs in Grimsby after winning contracts with Marks and Spencer.

    More than 1,500 people in Grimsby work for the company.

    The firm said today it's opened a bidding process for all interested parties.

    This is the Azuma train, which will be running on the Lincoln to London route from next year.

    It was in Lincoln last night as part of the latest series of test runs on the route.

    Virgin Trains said it arrived at Lincoln Central station in the early hours of the morning as part of a test run by manufacturer Hitachi.

    The first of the 65 new trains are set to enter service this December and the company says by 2020 there will be six services a day from Lincoln to London, currently there's just one.

    The Lincoln City manager Danny Cowley says he'd like to see referees be full-time in the Football League.

    Only Premier League referees are currently full-time and Cowley wants that to change.

    This is Craig Williamson, who farms near Gainsborough.

    He's running the London Marathon this weekend.

    And you may have noticed that he's wearing a costume that looks like a tractor.

    He says it weighs about two stone and he will be wearing it for the entire marathon, on what is likely to be one of the hottest ever days for the event.

    And yes, that's the Lincolnshire and Nottinghamshire Air Ambulance in the background.

    The charity will benefit from the funds he raises on the event.

  19. Beleaguered council wages contractor under reviewpublished at 09:23 British Summer Time 19 April 2018

    A private company which has come under sustained pressure for mishandling the wages of council workers has been told the contact is under review.

    Serco is three years into a five-year, £70m deal to provide financial backroom services for Lincolnshire County Council.

    But since taking over in 2015 Serco has had financial penalties imposed over a series of errors which led to problems with school budgets and workers' pay

    The authority says it is considering whether to extend the Serco contract or share the systems used by Herefordshire County Council.
