  13. Money from CCTV cuts to be spent on ASBO officerspublished at 14:59 British Summer Time 3 May 2018

Money saved by removing CCTV cameras from an estate in Boston will be spent on anti-social behaviour officers in the area.

    CCTV in Fenside

The Lincolnshire Housing Partnership withdrew £20,000 worth of voluntary funding for the cameras.

It's been claimed that the move could lead to an "infestation" of crime in the area.

Boston Borough Council says the cameras won't be re-introduced because it can't justify spending council tax payers money on CCTV for one area of the town.

Bridget Lloyd from the Lincolnshire Housing partnership says the money will be put to good use though.

    Quote Message

We've been talking to the borough council for the last three years about potentially withdrawing this funding. Slowly but surely we've got to the point where we feel using that money to fund another anti-social behaviour officer is far more valuable.

  16. Campaign to scrap 'unnecessary' council re-brandingpublished at 13:56 British Summer Time 3 May 2018

A petition has been launched to "scrap the unnecessary rebranding" of North Kesteven District Council.

The petition, external, set up by a district councillor, calls the exercise a "waste of council funds".

It's estimated that £5,000 has been spent on the new logo (pictured, left) to replace the old logo (pictured, right).

The council says the logo would be phased in, so the cost to the taxpayer would be minimal.

Council documents say the current logo's "nuanced detail is indistinguishable in some electronic and digital uses" and "the detail of the internal lines and structure make it difficult to engrave".

But it's argued that the new logo and rebranding isn't required.

    Quote Message

I have not come across a single person who has felt this is good value for money and something that we need to do."

  18. Fishing communities' 'lingering doubts' - Cleethorpes MPpublished at 13:08 British Summer Time 3 May 2018

Fishing communities still have "lingering doubts" over the government's commitment to them, the Conservative MP for Cleethorpes has said.

Martin Vickers MP has urged ministers against further Brexit concessions and asked for "absolute assurance" about the government's approach during Commons questions to the Department for Exiting the European Union.

The UK will effectively remain subject to the EU's Common Fisheries Policy during the 21-month transition after Britain leaves in March 2019, which prompted MPs to voice concerns.

Fishermen had wanted the UK to regain full control over its waters immediately after the country formally leaves the EU.

But it was suggested in negotiations that EU fishers could have access to the UK's waters in exchange for a free trade deal with the UK, something the UK fishing industry has called "absurd".

Responding to Mr Vickers, Brexit Minister Steve Baker said the government "fully understands and recognises" the importance of fishing.

    Quote Message

I very much look forward to my colleagues on this side of the House perhaps one day standing here as fisheries ministers themselves operating our own independent fishing policy."

A meeting about the future of Boston's Pilgrim Hospital is due to be held in Skegness this evening.

    pilgrim hospital closure

The meeting intends to discuss the impact on the town of the potential closure of children's services at the hospital.

Skegness Council is considering whether to write to the health secretary about the matter.

It comes as a public meeting about the ward is being organised by a Boston-based campaign group next week.

The group, SOS Pilgrim Hospital, external, says it's "absolutely crucial" that people raise their voices and express their concerns about the potential closure.

The hospital trust says it's considering five options to deal with a "severe shortage of doctors and nurses" which led to the cancellation of all non-urgent children's operations in February.

The trust said "none of the options are ideal".
