The Environment Agency says it will take several years to get the river's complex ecosystem back to full health, but release of the roach and bream larvae is an important first step.

  6. Pressure goes up a gear to honour Bomber Commandpublished at 10:31 British Summer Time 25 May 2018

Campaigners in Lincolnshire say they're stepping-up pressure on the government to award a medal to surviving veterans of Bomber Command.

    Bomber command

Almost 58,000 members of Bomber Command lost their lives in World War Two, with many flying from air bases in Lincolnshire.

Veterans have been awarded a clasp, but some have described that as an insult and believe there should be a dedicated campaign medal.

    Quote Message

If this is not put right before the last remaining one dies, it will be a government matter that is forever shrouded in embarrassment."

A former consultant from Boston Pilgrim Hospital fears patients will die if children's services are downgraded or closed at the site.

    Children's ward

Hospital managers say they can't recruit enough middle-grade doctors, so are considering options including the closure of Boston's children's ward and neonatal unit.

The maternity unit could also be downgraded to a midwife-led facility, health bosses say.

But Doctor Surya Hanumara, who worked as a paediatrician for 23 years at the Pilgrim, says A&E staff wouldn't be able to cope with serious paediatric emergencies:

The county council wants to run its own Christmas Emporium in the grounds of Lincoln Castle just two weeks after the market run by the City of Lincoln Council.

    Quote Message

I don't think the castle is in competition but there is always a risk of that isn't there? In its first year we don't know quite how it will work. As long as we're working together it'll be better for Lincoln and for visitors.

Simon Colburn, City of Lincoln Council

Lincolnshire County Council says the new event would complement the traditional market and would not take stallholders away from it.
