1. Blind Scunthorpe man climbs Europe's highest mountainpublished at 09:37 British Summer Time 17 October 2018

    A 23-year-old man from Scunthorpe is believed to be the first blind British man to reach the summit of Europe's highest mountain.

    Jack Garner faced winds of more than 50mph, windchill of -37C (-35F) and a longer stay than usual on the 18,510ft (5,642m) Mount Elbrus due to extreme weather conditions.

    In 2007, at the age of 11, Mr Garner lost his sight over the course of several months due to a genetic condition.

    Mr Garner says the loss of sight was "traumatic", but challenges helped him cope so he set his sights on eventually climbing Mount Elbrus.

    A Lincolnshire church tower will be draped in thousands of knitted poppies later to mark the upcoming centenary of the end of the First World War.

    St Andrew's at Kirton in Lindsey will be draped in a camouflage net covered with the poppies.

    Volunteers from the Royal Artillery are expected to raise the cascade which will be on display until 12 November.

    Police are trying to trace two men who tried to break into the house of 72-year-old man in Cleethorpes.

    The men peered through the man's windows and tried to break a door handle at the house on the Belvoir Park estate on 29 September at about 19:45.

    The man shouted at the would-be burglars and they ran off.

    The government has been accused of disregarding Lincolnshire's military heritage over plans to close RAF Scampton.

    Karen Lee, the Labour MP for Lincoln, has been debating the future of the RAF station at Westminster.

    She told MPs that protesters were "queueing down the High Street" to sign a petition against the plan to sell it off.

    The proposed sale would see the famous Red Arrows having to find a new home.

    In total, 11 members of staff were injured in a number of separate incidents.

    In once case an officer was strangled and bitten by a dog.

    The six men have been charged with a range of offences including assault.

    The multi-million pound project at Brayford Wharf East, near the university, had been expected to start yesterday, but will now get under way in two weeks time.

    The bridge will cross the existing level crossing.

    It's designed to stop people jumping the existing barriers at the crossing.

    A man and woman from Sheffield have appeared in court charged with the murder of a 53-year-old woman in a seaside bar fight in Lincolnshire earlier this year.

    Caroline Fisher (pictured), 53, from Eastwood in Nottinghamshire, died on 21 July after a fight outside Buzz Bar in Ingoldmells the day before.

    Leon Wadsworth, 31, of Milnrow Road, Sheffield, and Hayley Fletcher, 31, of Paper Mill Road, Sheffield, appeared at Lincoln Magistrates' Court charged with murder.

    Mr Wadsworth also faces a second linked charge of assault causing actual bodily harm to a man on 20 July 2018.

    Both defendants were remanded in custody and are due to appear before Lincoln Crown Court later today.
