Hundreds of hoglets are being rescued because this year's wet weather has left them too underweight to hibernate.
Leicestershire Wildlife Hospital says it has 200 of the baby hedgehogs already - more than throughout the whole winter period last year - with more arriving every day.
At this time of year they normally only have about 100, the hospital said.
Yesterday, 14 were dropped off and now about 94% of the hospital's animal patients are hedgehogs.
Ang Downham, the hospital's founder, said: "It's overwhelming, the worst I've ever seen it. We've got hedgehogs coming out of our ears."
She explained hedgehog mothers are having their babies later in the season than they should because the wet weather may have drowned their earlier litters.
The new babies have not had enough time to fatten up to hibernate, she said.
The centre is appealing for food - specifically puppy milk - and money to buy equipment like heating mats.
