    CCTV footage has been released after an 89-year-old woman was pulled to the ground by a man who stole her handbag in her back garden.

    It happened at a property on Winchester Avenue in Beeston at about 16:15 on 2 October.

    Nottinghamshire Police said after the robbery, the offender fled the scene on a white and red pushbike.

    Det Con Tony Tonks said the footage showed a man riding a bike along Cyprus Avenue, off Wollaton Road, with a bag over the handlebars, before abandoning the bike.

    "This was a shocking robbery for the victim, who is a vulnerable elderly woman," he added.

    Police have appealed for witnesses.

    Two men wearing green balaclavas stole cash in a robbery at a KFC restaurant in Derby last night, police said.

    The men entered the fast food eatery in the Meteor Centre at 22:45 last night.

    Derbyshire Police said they demanded staff hand over money and then ran off "with an amount of cash".

    One of the men has been described as 5ft 10in tall, and was wearing a blue tracksuit.

    Police said the other man was wearing a grey tracksuit top with black bottoms.

    A 21-year-old man is in a critical condition in hospital after being assaulted in Ripley yesterday morning, police have said.

    Derbyshire Police were called at 05:00 to a report a man had been attacked and was unconscious near to Wilko.

    The man was taken to King's Mill Hospital where he remains. Police believe he may have been in the Association and Crib bars prior to the attack.

    The force has appealed for witnesses.

    Leicester was awash with bright lights and colour last night as 45,000 packed on to Belgrave Road to take part in Diwali celebrations.

    The city's annual event to mark the Indian festival of light is said to be the largest in the UK.

    Thousands of people enjoyed dance and music performances, a parade and a large fireworks display along the Golden Mile.

    A 21-year-old man has been taken to hospital after reports of a serious assault in Nottingham last night.

    Nottinghamshire Police were called to Bailey Street, Whitemoor, at about 18:30 on Sunday.

    The force said initial reports suggest a white vehicle may have been involved.

    Officers found an injured man in nearby Basford Road and he was taken to the Queen's Medical Centre for treatment. His injuries are not thought to be life-threatening or life-altering.

    Both streets were cordoned off last night as officers tried to piece together what happened.

    Insp Paul Hennessy said: "We believe a number of people witnessed the assault and we are working hard to establish the full circumstances and trace those responsible."

    He asked for anyone who saw the assault or has CCTV footage to get in touch with them.
