    Emergency responders had to rescue a driver after "irresponsible" road users flooded their car.

    The vehicle was stranded on Desford Lane, outside Kirby Muxloe in Leicestershire, because other cars overtook and created a wave which flooded it, according to Ben Nandrame, a local flood responder.

    He took the opportunity to tell drivers the road is now down to single file.

    Homes in Long Whatton in Leicestershire have been flooded by water running off the nearby fields.

    The local school opened as a centre for those caught out by the weather and neighbours have been bringing hot kettles to neighbours without power so they can have some tea.

    Residents said the flooding began at about 14:00 and quickly rose, although it is now subsiding.

    There are long delays on the A52 in and out of Nottingham this evening after it was partially blocked by standing water.

    According to traffic monitoring service Inrix, the road was cleared earlier by the council but traffic is still slow in both directions.

    Flooding in a Nottinghamshire village means no buses can get to it.

    Nottingham City Transport has just announced it has stopped running to Woodborough.

    They said: "Sky Blue 46, 47 are operating between Nottingham, Mapperley Plains and Lambley (Catfoot Lane) only."
