    The Deputy Chief Constable of West Mercia, Anthony Bangham, is in line to become Chief Constable.

    He has been nominated by the Police and Crime Commissioner John Campion to succeed David Shaw and now needs the confirmation of the West Mercia Police and Crime Panel.

    The PCC said Mr Bangham was chosen "following a robust selection process" which saw him face questions from local councillors, police colleagues and others, including young people.

    The Heart of England in Bloom judges are touring the county at the moment. 

    They've already judged the floral displays in Bridgnorth and Ludlow - next week they're heading to Shrewsbury and Newport. 

    Today they're in Oswestry and here's a selection of the displays there.

    Telford Tigers head coach Tom Watkins says he's prepared to wait before making his final import signing of the summer.

    All teams are now allowed to sign five players from outside the UK and the Tigers already have Jason Silverthorn, Ondrej Raszka, Doug Clarkson (pictured below) and Michal Satek.

    With over a month to go until the pre-season fixture start, Watkins says he wants a "left-handed centreman who is good at face-offs and can play big minutes in key situations".

  7. Military charity says more veterans seeking helppublished at 10:34 British Summer Time 20 July 2016

    The military charity, SSAFA, says there's been a rise of nearly 20% in the number of ex-servicemen who've sought help in Shropshire.

    The charity says 384 contacted it in the county last year and has produced a report saying many working age veterans are reliant on food banks and struggle with depression.

    SSAFA surveyed 1000 ex-military personnel around the country about the financial and emotional problems they face upon returning home.

  8. Man dies in two-car crashpublished at 10:18 British Summer Time 20 July 2016

    A man has died in a two-car crash on the B4176 Telford to Dudley road. 

    It happened just after 22:00 last night, near the Woodman pub. 

    A 27-year-old man driving the other car suffered injuries to his pelvis, knee and ankle and was taken to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham.

  11. The New Saints lose in Cypruspublished at 09:50 British Summer Time 20 July 2016

    The New Saints were knocked out of the Champions League in the second qualifying round despite a brave effort in Cyprus last night.

    Goals from Cyprus internationals Nektarios Alexandrou and Pieros Sotiriou did the damage for TNS, who held Apoel to a goalless draw in the first leg at Park Hall, Oswestry, last Tuesday.

    "I am immensely proud," said New Saints boss Craig Harrison.

    "The second goal made it a huge ask and took the wind out of our sails. We had our chances, but that is me being ultra critical."

  12. RAF museum hopes to attract Pokemon playerspublished at 09:30 British Summer Time 20 July 2016

    The RAF Museum at Cosford is targeting Pokemon Go players, pointing out it's home to a number of locations where players can catch the virtual creatures.

    The game overlays the Pokemon characters on real-life locations and allows players to see them through the cameras on their phones.

    The museum also boasts a PokeGym directly in front of the Lockheed Hercules aircraft (a spot where players can do battle) and 11 PokeStops (places where you will find some of the rarer characters and PokeBalls).

  13. South Shropshire risks becoming 'rural desert'published at 09:15 British Summer Time 20 July 2016

    There are calls for the government to reintroduce grants to encourage housing associations to build more homes in rural towns and villages.

    Lib Dem concillor Heather kidd asys South Shropshire desperately needs more affordable homes, to avoid young people being forced out.

    "Otherwise we're going to create a rural desert with just elderly people and wealthy people living here," she said.

    "We'll lose our shops, we'll lose our small schools in villages."
